Ed Sheeran, Drake, & Kendrick Lamar Are Spotify's Most Popular Artists Of 2017
News
Dec 05, 2017

Hip-Hop streaming increased 74% this year.
He may have missed out on Grammy nominations in the four major categories this year, but Ed Sheeran is more popular than ever. Spotify just released its annual Year in Music lists, which reveal the top artists, albums, tracks, and more of 2017, and the U.K. singer-songwriter lands squarely at No. 1 on the Global Most Streamed Artists list. Just behind him is Drake, followed by The Weeknd, Kendrick Lamar, and The Chainsmokers.

Rihanna led the pack for Most-Streamed Female Aritst despite not dropping an album, with Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, and Sia following close behind. Daddy Yankee grabbed the fifth spot for Most-Streamed Male Artist. Breakout acts of the year included newly solo artists Camila Cabello, Harry Styles, and Liam Payne, as well as rappers Lil Pump and Trippie Redd. With the success of CULTURE, Migos earned a spot on the Most Streamed Groups list, too.

The service noted that hip-hop streaming increased a whopping 74 percent this year. Latin music was even bigger, growing 110 percent. Spotify particularly identified Latin Trap as a major growth area, the rise of which Genius previously broke down in a video:
