City Boy - One of the Best Unknown Bands of the 70's
I first heard of City Boy back in 1977 when my brother came over with Young Men Gone West ,which was actually their third album. My brother rolled and I put it on the turntable.
I had a great stereo back then. 4 Bose 901's hung from the ceiling and powered with a huge Bose amp pumping out 400W into these beautiful speakers. I miss that sound. Sigh....

I was just blown away with their music and there lyrics. I was hooked and fell in love with them.
I bought every album they put out.
Lol Mason(lead vocals), Steve Broughton(Lead vocal/acoustic guitar/mandolin/percussion), Max Thomas (guitar, lead vocals) and Chris Dunn (bass, guitar) made up the original members. They played acoustic folk music around Birmingham and the midlands of England.
I am sure at one time they were also known as a Christian Band and I managed to get an mp3 of 5.7.0.5 but with the original lyrics.
5.7.0.5 hit the top ten in the UK
They later added Roger Kent (drums), Mike Slamer (guitar, bass), and Roy Ward (drums, vocals)
They are all great musicians. I really like Mike Slamer's guitar. They harmonize really well.
I also like how they change up tempo. 10cc was good at that too.
They put out 7 albums from 1976 to 1981. The band split up in 1982 because they could not secure a contract.
Sometimes it just goes like that. The star that burns twice as bright burns twice as fast or some crap like that.
I can't miss them because they are still here. Still one of my all time favorite bands.
This track is from the album Young Men Gone West and the title song of the album which can be found on side 2 track 1
Great lyrics.
