in #music7 years ago (edited)

[EN] Two days ago I wrote about how cool was to watch the Red Hot Chili Peppers playing "Otherside" in Rock In Rio Festival and yesterday this wonderful music video inspired by German cinema turned 18 years.

Did you already watch this music video, righ?
If not, press play and watch it before reading below :)

The "Otherside" is the fourth track of Californication album. The music video was released in 2000 and it was directed by the duo Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, who created other classic videos of the band.

It was made in black and white and all influenced by the German expressionism of Robert Wiene's Doctor Caligari's Cabinet.

Besides the visual remember a lot of "Caligari" movie, we also see references of other styles like Surrealism and Cubism. The endless ladder and the disproportion of common elements like giant high voltage wire and flying wing/mouth shown in the clip, reinforce this trend.

Outra fato que marcou nesse video foi o fato de um álbum totalmente hollywoodiano valorizar o cinema europeu com traços especificamente demarcados. Vindo dos Red Hot Chili Peppers, a qualidade musical e visual é praticamente inquestionável.

Another interesting point in this video was the fact that a totally Hollywood album values the European cinema with traces specifically demarcated. Coming from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, their musical and visual quality is virtually unquestionable.

So, what did you think about the references?
