Nigerian Afrobeat Stars That Changed Their Stage Name

It could be fame, pride, or secret circumstance that forced some of the Nigerian Afrobeat promising stars to change their stage name but it's quite interesting.

For a decade now, we have been able to experience a change of names in the conference of the Nigerian music firm amongst top stars via their choices.

This may have been spanked by displeasure or belief which has often made views complicated for their fan base.

In this article, we shall discuss Nigerian Afrobeat stars who changed their stage name.

Buju

Lately February 2022, the Nigerian songwriter and singer, Buju took to his Twitter handle and announced changing his stage name from 'Buju' to BNXN which is pronounced as Benson.

He however didn't note the reason he changed his name which has got fans talking.

The solo Nigerian singer experienced a rapid breakthrough after terminating his contract with the Nigerian Grammy award-winning singer Burna Boy. This was portrayed after several years of experience under the shadow of the African Giant.

His peak spanked right from the moment he featured the Nigerian rapper, Blaqbonez on the song 'Bling'. People loved his style and streamed his songs via all the top music charts.

He is recognized currently as Benson on all platforms after ditching his previous name 'Buju'

Wizkid

Ibrahim Ayo Balogun who is popularly known as Wizkid also is recognized as one of the Nigerian Afrobeat maestri that changed his stage name.

After acquiring fame and emerging as one of the biggest names in the Nigerian music space, he changed his stage name from Wizkid to Big Wiz a.k.a Machala.

One of his major reasons emerged to be the fact that he is big in the Nigerian music firm so he preferred to be referred to as a man, not as a kid as entitled to his name Wizkid.

Currently, his fans have adapted to the new change. Just 2% of his fans call him Wizkid.

Kiss Daniel

Nigerian singer and songwriter, Kiss Daniel also changed his stage name.

The veteran singer rose to fame after deploying hits to the Nigerian music firm including "Wojuo" which featured stars like Davido and Tiwa Savage as of then.

He kept his musical goal alive and achieved the peak that has earned him prominence so far.

He dominated several major music charts and convinced the world of his qualities. However, he wasn't satisfied with the stage name 'Kiss Daniel' and changed it to 'Kizz Daniel'

No one could tell the reason behind such but other sources disclosed that he changed it because 'Kiss Daniel' sounded and looked childish

2Face

The popularly known professional Afrobeat singer, 2Face also changed his stage name a long time ago.

Just after he went solo and released his debut album 'Face to face' that acquired his fame, he found his peak and earned a massive fan base.

This encouraged his zeal to release over 100 hit songs that earned him several music awards.

2Face however was not satisfied with his stage name. This is because his stage name was prompted by the former music group that crashed due to feuds between him and the groups. Platinum Boys was one of the greatest music groups in Nigeria as of the following how they bonded together and dished out many hit songs. 2Face was one of them as of then.

When they clashed, it was alleged that 2Face practiced Plagiarism on the song "African Queen" it was alleged to be his former music mate, Faze's a song. This caused havoc between the two.

2Face didn't want anything to relate him with the bittered aggrieved singer, Faze, and changed the face in his name to 2Baba.
