This Day in Rock Music History: 1 Jul "The Band - Music from Big Pink"
1968: 50 years ago today, The Band released their debut LP, “Music from Big Pink”. After backing Bob Dylan on his 1966 tour as The Hawks, The Band retreated to a pink-shingled rental home in Saugerties, NY, where they recorded a plethora of music with Dylan. This collection of over 100 songs later became known as “The Basement Tapes”. The Band then decided it was time to cut their own album. Dylan offered to lend vocals, but in the end his only contribution to the project wound up being the album’s cover art.
