Hidden Notes: Kyson - A Book of Flying

in #music7 years ago (edited)

Today's artist is from Berlin, Germany; he's a singer, producer and Songwriter called Kyson.

I'm gonna talk about his 2016 work A Book of Flying.
Jian Kellett Liew (also known as Kyson) is a talented one-man band, his music is chilled, soft and armonious, which is a great combination when you plan on just chilling on the sofa.
His voice is devoted to the music, folkloristic in a way but drowned by his take on downtempo arrangements, colored by acid synth and carried by soft 808's drums (listen to the 4th track You).
When it comes to electronics arrangement he uses a lot of synths to make Atmos and to open the highs spectrum of the track, also his use of organic drums and field recordings feels fresh and it doesn't invade the track as we often hear in today producer's music.
One thing I personally admire of his music is that he's not afraid of silence, he doesn't mind to pause his music and to have a low dynamic curve and a Through Tape character, it feels like that open-hearted conversation we all did when we were young; with our friends, about the future and the uncertainty of our lives, before falling asleep.
I loved listening to the album, felt a little bit too short but it still gave me the time to experience really good vibes.
