What Is Up Steemians? - @IAmHBroS

Here is the fourth album review by yours truly. I am a lover of music and especially love taking a journey through an album. I am the guy that enjoys sitting down with an album and listening through it. So I thought, "Why not do some album reviews?"
Now, I am not the most accredited album reviewing person in the world but these are just my thoughts.
Also, this will be more of a 'what I like" more than a what I dislike. (Unless I really dislike something)
Some albums I will be an avid follower of the artists music while others I just may be starting to listening to them or maybe I have never heard an artist before. I feel like that will make some things interesting in the future.

This weeks album is “24K Magic” by Bruno Mars!

What I Know About The Artist

I don’t know a lot about Bruno Mars but I do know that he is an AWESOME entertainer, singer, and Musician! Every time I see him live on tv he captivates me and I can’t stop watching. If he ever comes to my hometown I’ll make sure to make it to his concert!

What I Know About The Album

I really didn’t know to much about the album but I had heard the released singles because of the radio. Someone told me to listen to it and I just always put it off until now!

Track 1: 24K Magic

The album opens with this song having your classic 90s vocal piano part. It’s keeps you guessing if Tupac is going make an appearance. Following that Mars perfectly captures the early 90s pop sound. This is probably something that I will be talking a lot about but Mars is a master at Vocal rhythm. What I’m trying to explain is that what gives his song that upbeat funky feel is that every instrument has its own rhythm that contributes to the songs overall! This song itself just makes you want to move and try your own little dance to the beat! Great song!

Track 2: Chunky

This song is definitely unique! The plain synth sound that dances through the whole song really fits in and I don’t know how! I’ve tried putting plain synths in song and it never feels right, but I’m not Bruno Mars! Once again nailing that funky sound but you can’t deny the modern sound that comes with it! Later in the song Mars shows of his vocals with a beautiful falsetto and vocals runs that will make you tear up. Didn’t love it but like.

Track 3: Perm

This song makes me feel like I’m listen to a James Brown album from the future. So I’m this song we see that you can’t deny what Mars is trying to push and that is the funk. Here’s another example in this song if you listen you can clearly hear all the separate rhythms working together to make the song!

Track 4: That’s What I Like

I hate to repeat myself but the 90s are trying to make an appearance with the hip hop whistle! This song is short and sweet and just enough to have you up and dancing!
Coming up next we have the song America loves. It’s not my favorite but it’s not a bad song either! This song is obviously trying to impress a girl but still has that fun feel that Mars always does well! The crazy synth makes another appearance in this this song and starts wailing at the end then Mars follows with his impressive vocal skills!

Track 5: Versace On The Floor

Ooooooh the piano bells are just what I need to get me in the mood! That wasn’t sarcastic I really do love the sound of the piano bells despite how others may feel about it. Mars really shows you what he is made of in this song when it comes to vocal performance and nails it in the beginning of the song! The that beat comes in and I’m not sure if I should call it 90s or 80s but regardless it makes me what to move my hips. The solo towards the end is bending me into an eternity of awesomeness.
This you got that beat that makes you want to grab your wife and dance around the house all night! One of my favorites on the album!

Track 6: Straight Up & Down

Okay so you might be glad to hear that I won’t be talking about Funk in this song because this song absolutely nails R&B. Once again Mars is killing the vocals. That clap snare cuts through the mix to make sure your following! I really like the hook I think it really makes the song for me! Simple little R&B song! Not my favorite but still a good song!

Track 7: Calling All My Lovelies

Man once again this could go on a certain Snoop Dog album if I didn’t know who what singing! I would lean more towards R&B but I’m not gonna label this one. To be honest, this song really doesn’t do much for me. Not my favorite. However I do respect the talent and the quality that is has!

Track 8: Finesse

Here we go, we are picking it back up. This is my personal preference for an album structure fast slow and then end upbeat! If I wasn’t too careful I would say this was an old Backstreet Boys song. It has the classic beat with those sharp hits (I don’t remember what they are called). Accompanying Mars is the heavy harmony just like the classic Backstreet Boys songs! With all that being said I really enjoyed this song!

Track 9: Too Good To Say Goodbye

I guess I jinxed this album structure because he ends on a slow. This song is impressive. It really highlights Mars’ vocal ability. Other than that this is a sweet simple ballad that you would tell you ex to listen to so that you could get back together. Good song!

My Final Thoughts

Overall this was a great album! I am a lover of 90s music so that could be the reason why! I might be hated for comparing him but I firmly believe Bruno Mars is today’s James Brown. He is an awesome singer, entertainer, and musician like Brown and even leads his band similar to Brown! I was very impressed with this album and I wish it had more song that I could jam to but I guess I’ll just have to wait for his next project!
