Composing Soulful R&B Melodies With Instrumentals # 7 - Keeping Hope Alive (FREE DOWNLOAD)
For the main melody to this instrumental tune, I started off with the double basses string out of the vsti plugin sample tank. As you can see above in the screenshot is the pattern to the main melody to this soulful vibe.
I then added a second pair of strings that were the SQ STRINGS out of the vsti purity. These strings were meant to give the main strings support by acting as the emotional strings in the instrumental beat. Don't you just love a cinematic type of feel? Well, that's what I was going for in this soul music that was meant to sooth your heart and keep hope alive ;-)
After I laid down the foundation sounds to get the instrumental music going, I then started to work on the drums for the beat. I like to keep my drum patterns simple because it allows the melody to flourish. Some of my beats have simple drum works and some have complicated drum patterns with a lot of break downs. It all depends on the type of vibe that I'm getting off the beat. Make sure to listen to what your instrumental music is telling you when you are creating it because music speaks to us and if you can't hear your own music that you are creating then you're going to have a tough time bonding with your own creation in my opinion.
To add on to the melody, I added these 12 strings acoustic guitars found in the sample tank virtual studio technology instrument. The pattern to this sound were laid out just a couple milli-seconds late to give it that water drop sound in the instrumental beat. Not sure if you understand that but that's where a video tutorial would come in to show you what I mean ;-)
The next set of strings are these tremolo strings out of the hypersonic vsti and these strings were added in to give the beat a build up. The part where you hear the beat sounding more dramatic and theatrical is where these strings where placed. I copied the main pattern from the sq strings and pasted to this pattern for the tremolo strings, that was pretty easy ;-)
You know I couldn't forget about the world famous SUB BASS from the VSTi plugin Hypersonic. It's not really world famous, I just said that because I'm always using this sub bass for most of my instrumental hip hop music beats or in other genres of instrumentals that I create. This bass line is basically going along with the melody of the beat, can you hear it? This bass is what gives the instrumental beat it's bump, very hard to miss if you have some good headphones or speakers in general.
I added this "back to the future" type of sounding synth lead in the instrumental called Pressure. This sound was found in the vsti purity and I copied the pattern from the sub bass into to this sound with little effort. I played with this sound for a while trying to come up with a different vibe but copying the pattern from the sub bass did the instrumental justice! Copy & Paste ;-)
Another copy & paste pattern that I did on were these bright concert pianos found in the vsti plugin sample tank. This was copied from the 12 strings acoustic guitar to make the instrumental sound whole instead of empty. Sometimes I like to layer sounds on top of each other to make the beat sound more intense, melody wise!
For the intro to this soulful tune, I used this sound out of the purity vsti called three keyboards piano. I basically copied the main pattern to the melody and pasted it into this sound for the intro. You won't hear this sound anywhere else but the intro to this beat.
Below is the finished version of the instrumental and it is for free download. If you really like these instrumentals that I am posting, please feel free to leave a comment below, all feedbacks are appreciated, including negative ones as well. Thank You.
