Producing Hip Hop Beats With Instrumentals # 15 - Hollow Heart (FREE DOWNLOAD)
For this instrumental hip hop beat, I started off with a Bright Concert Piano KW sound that was located in the VSTi plugin Sample tank. As you can see in the above screenshot, I laid down the main pattern for the main melody. You can hear this sound when the instrumental music starts to add a little build up at the 23 second mark. At the 23 second mark is where these pianos come in, even though this was the main melody to the instrumental track.
I called this instrumental music Hollow Heart because of the dark & spooky hip hop vibe that the beat gives off. This sounds like this could be a hip hop theme beat for some kind of haunted house or something similar to that sort. It could also be a theme beat to a chase scene in a movie, can you hear it?
After laying down the main melody, I also added a second set of pianos that sound different from the first piano that I laid down. This piano sound that I got from the SAMPLE TANK was called Acoustic Grand Piano 1. The number one indicating that there's several other acoustic type of pianos. With this sound, I went to the lower notes to give the main melody that dark supporting rhythm. You can hear this second piano come in right when the beat drops as one of the main playing roles to the melody. It's not that hard to miss, you can hear it go along with the Bright Concert Pianos when those come in at the 23 second mark. This piano is what gave the beat it's darkness vibe because of the low chords that I used and it plays throughout the entire course of the track.
After I laid down the 2 pianos to get the instrumental music going, I then started to work on the drums for the beat. I like to keep my drum patterns simple because it allows the melody to flourish. Some of my beats have simple drum works and some have complicated drum patterns with a lot of break downs. It all depends on the type of vibe that I'm getting off the beat. Make sure to listen to what you instrumental music is telling you when you are creating it because music speaks to us and if you can't hear your own music that you are creating then you're going to have a tough time bonding with your own creation in my opinion.
I also added these Mid Strings that I also got from the VSTi plugin called PURITY. This is the only string sound that made the instrumental more dramatic and we all know I love dramatic sounding beats. I basically mixed it in with the rest of the support sounds. Mixing is always key to any music and I really believe that without a good mix to any music, then the music itself wouldn't sound that great. Can you imagine a world of music without mixing? I can't and I think music wouldn't sound that great if we didn't fix the levels to each sound.
To continue with the construction of the track, I added these organs that I got from the VSTi plugin purity. These organs were called E.Organ 2 and without these organs adding on to the spooky vibe, then the track would sound so Hollow Heart. You see what I did there? Never mind, you probably didn't get it Lol
You know I couldn't forget about the world famous SUB BASS from the VSTi plugin Hypersonic. It's not really world famous, I just said that because I'm always using this sub bass for most of my instrumental hip hop music beats. This bass line is basically going along towards the end of the melody of the beat, can you hear it?
The next sound that I incorporated into this instrumental was a sound called FAT Draken 2 out of the VSTi purity. This is the only synth sound that stands alone in the instrumental beat. This is the main synth sound that you will hear at 6 second mark in the hip hop rap beat, You can't miss it. This sound comes in right after the 2nd bar going into the 3rd bar with the other supporting sounds that creates the instrumental hip hop rap music beat!
To add some more drama to the instrumental hip hop rap beat, I added these Spiccato Strings found in the Hypersonic VSTi. Even the pattern to these strings look dramatic, don't they? It seems like there's a lot going on but I assure you that it's really not that dramatic as it looks. I basically duplicated the notes and stack them, from the lower notes to the higher notes to make the strings sound more full and to make the beat sound theatrical.
Last but not least is this pluck kind of sound that ride along with the hip hop beat. This sound was pulled out of the FM8 plugin by Native Instruments. This sound gave the beat it's final touches and the name of that sound was "color of dirt". I always wonder who keeps on naming these sound because they have the weirdest names for the sounds that I utilize to create these instrumentals.
Below is the finished version of the instrumental and it is for free download. If you really like these instrumentals that I am posting, please feel free to leave a comment below, all feedbacks are appreciated, including negative ones as well. Thank You.
