Making Music
I've always enjoyed the thought of making music.
Don't get me wrong, I had the same childhood rock star dreams as anyone else. The only difference between you and me is that I've held onto those dreams for a little longer. I started making music about two years ago, but only started ramping up my efforts to make good music this past year.
Over the course of my senior year of high school, I spent the second half of the school year to really try to buckle down and work on making music. I had gotten my hands on LMMS, a program I used for making electronic music. It was around February when I started producing lofi hiphop tracks, music that you can just vibe to. Think cafe music, super chill, repetitive.
Very easy to make. Or maybe I was doing it wrong.
During that same time, I started writing songs. I had this grand plan that by the end of my senior year, I was going to make an EP, something straight from the soul, translated onto six strings. Let's just say that none of that happened.
I like to think of my last year of high school as a sort of training ground, a time for musical experimentation, testing out what kind of music that I want to make, what I'm good at, that kind of thing. I'm still not completely sure what I want to make, and I'm not going to wait until I do to start making good music, real music.
I've been taking a different approach to writing music, rather trying to write like my favorite artists, I'm focusing more on writing like a mix of them.
So we'll see how that goes. Wish me luck.
