A Guide to Jazz for beginners

in #music8 years ago

Hi, steem community!

Today I wanna give you some examples of how versatile and beautiful jazz music can be.
And if you think something like "man, it's old boring shite..."
Well, I'll try to change your opinion and I'll do the best I can.

Let's start with some quite modern stuff. A japanese piano wonder Hiromi and her band.

And late Esbjorn Svennson.
Hint: wait for that double bass to start kicking ass...

Do you think that this is overcomplicated "music for musicians"? Well, you might...
So we're going about 20 years back in time...
Meet Michel Petrucciani.

Maybe I've bored you with piano players. So let's try one of the most amazing living jazz guitarists -
Pat Metheny!

Did you listen carefully? Caught some magic in the end?
Want more? Here it is...

And if you want some guitar magic instead....

It's Canadian band UZEB playing one of the great Miles Davis tunes.
Maybe you'll ask - and who the hell is Miles?
Well, we're going even more back in time.

Is this too cool? (btw, this kind of music is called cool jazz, and Miles invented it)
Wanna something more up-tempo?
A classic bebop tune:

And , certainly, the best tune for alarm clock (badass baritone sax)

Ok then, did it blow your ears, my friend? :)

I'll give one more to finish with - one of my favorite performances ever, if not THE one.

Well,it's enough for the first time.
If you show any interest, I'll continue this musical series :)
Ya gotta dig it, to dig it, you dig?(c)

I would add this too

Hiromi was great :) thank you for sharing!
Her speech at the end of video was also extremely clear :P
