6 Underrated Songs from The Beatles (and my favourites)
Everybody knows The Beatles. Everybody can sing "Hey Jude" or "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds". However, the most famous songs sometimes hide some gems. When something is well-known, it's hard to go beyond the feeling that you know it already and to go discover more.
- "Do you know The Beatles ?
- Sure, I love Yellow Submarine !
The band wrote more than 400 songs. Here is a list of some of my favourites.
1. I'm Only Sleeping
It's the first song with a backwards guitar solo, which produces a very special effect.
2. Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!
It is said that a circus poster was the inspiration of this song with a carnival atmosphere...
3. Blue Jay Way
A dark song from Magical Mystery Tour, written by George Harrison when he arrived in Los Angeles for the first time.
Blue Jay Way is a street in Hollywood, where Harrison had rented a house and was waiting for his friends.
4. Dear Prudence
A song from the White Album.
5. Rocky Raccoon
A folk song that shows that The Beatles could compose in very different styles, and could tell stories !
6. Honey Pie
Following the short song Wild Honey Pie in the same album, Honey Pie is McCartney's declaration of love to a girl who made it in the USA.
Because of copyright restrictions, it's quite hard to find videos of the songs. Please be indulgent.
Tell me in the comments what you think of this list. If you know the songs already, I'm sure you are happy to listen to them again. If you don't know them, enjoy !
I totally adore Come together and Eleanor Rigby. They're both outstanding.
Love them too ! What do you think of this list ?
