*Steemit Mixtape Monday* KING, Nai Palm (Hiatus Kiayote), Amber Navran (Moonchild)
Mixtape Monday is a selection of three tracks following a common theme. Feel free to add your own selections to the theme/mood in the comments. Can be new or old music. Enjoy!
This Mixtape Monday focuses on women in the music industry that are really carving a way for themselves from the underground up. If you haven't heard of these ladies then you should check them out.
KING - "The Greatest"
KING is a group comprised of pianist/composer Paris Strother, her twin sister Amber, and their childhood friend Anita Bias. After starting in Minneapolis, they relocated to LA and established themselves as a solid piece of the new millennium SoCal sound. Paris is one of my favorite pianists out right now and I like the old school video game flavor of this video. "The Greatest" was their lead single and blends their sultry vocals with the lush electronica elements that are the signature sound of their album We Are KING which was nominated for a Grammy in 2017.
Nai Palm - "Crossfire
Australian group Hiatus Kaiyote has put out some great music over the past couple of years and lead singer Nai Palm has always been a more than worthy artistic vehicle for the band's image and sound to flow through. Her solo album Needle Paw is a dive into the sounds of her native aboriginal roots and highlights her skilled abilities as a guitarist and song writer. "Crossfire" is on the album and this live version is a properly refixed version for her solo abilities.
Amber Navran - "Time's Up"
As a member of neo-soul-jazz trio Moonchild, Amber Navran has been at the forefront of a group that has spanned across quite a few musical networks. In 2017 they appeared on hip hop artist Rapsody's Grammy nominated album Laila's Wisdom, and opened up for jazz heavyweight Kamasi Washington on part of his 2017 tour. Her solo EP Speak Up is a breath of fresh beats that highlights her immense talents as not just a jazz musician and vocalist, but as a producer with a programming touch as silky as her voice.
