New Series Begin: Music?

in #music7 years ago (edited)

This has been something I've been planning since I started Steemit but never felt like there was much point, especially with so few followers. Though it's still clear there's comparatively little interest in music on Steemit other than live guitar-vocal performances), I felt it could be fun to combine my passions - Science, Music and Education - for a new series.

Now that I have my new laptop, i've had to move all my software from one hard drive to two others, and then the massive, multi-terabyte installation process begins (65gb for a single set of instruments for example). In the above (or below?) video, I've only installed one of the string samples, but I decided to have a little play around for your aural pleasure (giggle), just starting with random notes and stretching them out. You can safely assume something of higher quality will come from these future posts!

So, the keen eye may notice that the title of this post implies a plural, and you'd be right. Here's some ideas I have, which I will officially be working on from tomorrow, but I'd like some input by others as to what you would actually enjoy:

  • The science of music (answering questions about the very nature of music and the most recent research into it)

  • Tutorials (Studio production as in the video, but I'm also open to music theory, guitar or whatever)

  • Dlive, livestreeming the creation of music, perhaps taking requests from people as I go.

  • Dtube, Taking requests in advance by followers of the style or description of music, and I come back with whatever I can conjure up in response

  • Art combined with Music, in which I make music to another users' artwork, be it painting, drawing, or whatever.

For that last one, @erodedthoughts already gave me a picture as below, but it became such a big thing (it's hard to make such a clearly random picture sound sensible in 1 or 2 minutes) that I can't touch it until I have a full orchestra installed on here.

So yes, hopefully this series can get some kind of attention outside of my usual science buddies and loyal followers, since it really does tune into everything I care about in the world, but I also hope you current followers can find something to appreciate too!

So lemme know what you'd like, any requests or whatever below or in DM on steemit.chat, discord etc! Goodnight from me!

this was awesome.

I would love to see some tutorials using the piano roll/midi on things like Modes, Melody, Harmony ect..

Cool, I think if I do tutorials I'd start from scratch, maybe? But not many people use this software so I'd have to be more general... I dunno. I'd like to do tutorials definitely. Just need to think which angle to approach from

Well, I'll really love the combination. I'm a scientist but I was a musician before I became a scientist. So much love for the drums ( my starting point), the piano ( my current base), the guitar ( my new baby, can just play 3 keys on it) and many more instruments like the trumpet, saxophone and others but I don't have mine so, I wouldn't list them. Oops! I already did. Anyway, I'd like videos on the guitar..

Get yourself a mic and one day we can collaborate!

A mic? That's not a problem. I look forward..

Very cool strings.

This just feels really awesome to listen to. I wasn't expecting to here this at all from D.tube so that's fucking awesome also.

Hey this was just casual messing around to add more substance to this post lol. Hopefully you'll like the stuff I put real effort into just as much

really cool, how long you use Studio one ?
I get studio one inklusive my Presonus Studio 192 but not tested yet.

I've had it since version 1 I think... A while anyway, after converting from Cubase/Nuendo

Sounds good man, lovely strings. Live guitar performances do dominate the music scene here on steemit but maybe we can change that brotha :)

Starting with us, I like the thinking! I hope that gif is you =P

I have been taking a few stabs at composing songs on muse, music software. I posted my Jazzy Silent Night here on steemit and dsound. After twenty years of choir, I am good with rhythm, pitch, and harmonizing. My biggest shortfall I haven't learned yet is chords. I can't for the life of me figure out how to choose chords for making a song. Baselines are a total mystery to me, as I rely so heavy on percussion beats to carry the song. I would like to follow you if you can shine more light on the song writing process using computer software, like Muse.

These days, the rules are so flexible you could spit on a sheet of blank music from the top of a building, use the spit as notation and still come up with something somebody would enjoy, so the pressure to improve, get the chords 'right' etc is overstated these days, but to be able to understand and manipulate music is definitely useful... if I do lessons here I'd like to follow that philosophy; learn the rules, then destroy them

That's great to hear. I do a lot of work studying dance technique, and it is the same way. Learn concepts that seem different but are actually the same root thing, and then mess around with it to make it entertaining for variety.

Wow, I would love to see hear more like this in future. I particularly like the first idea (science of music). I hope you will get to it :)

A few have mentioned the science one! So I think I'll post one of those later today =D So much to look into...

I will be following your class sir mobbs have been looking for things like this glad, your finally making it happen on the platform.

It might be happening for all I know, but by unknown users... this is why I left it until my reputation was a bit higher!
