Paramore - After Laughter (2017) ALBUM REVIEW

in #music7 years ago (edited)

But I miss the oooollllddddd Paramore!

I've read Tweet after Tweet all with the same sentiment, I miss the "old" Paramore.  After Laughter may sound like Hayley and (ever changing) crew have all but ditched their emo/punk rock roots but fear not Paramore faithful, After Laughter holds all the angst and despair just below the surface, masked by shiny pop hooks and bright, uptempo beats.  And you know what?  IT WORKS!!!

After Laughter is Paramore's 5th studio album since their debut in 2005.  With the return of original drummer Zac Farro, many assumed this album would recall the Paramore of old, serving us the familiar intense vocals over driving rock tracks.  Front woman and co-writer Hayley Williams still undoubtedly delivers soaring, pin point precision vocals however the feel of this album is different, a good different.  Guitarist and co-writer Taylor York teams up with Farro to show us Paramore's glowing pop side.  Happy vibes abound with After Laughter but listen closely because behind the sunshine lies darkness in the lyrics, a darkness that teeters on the edge of impending mania.  Williams' voice effortlessly conveys the complex emotions concerning issues like fame, exhaustion, living under false pretenses and living up to expectations.  Paramore fans new and old will not be disappointed with After Laughter.  My personal picks for stand out tracks are Hard Time, 26, Idol Worship and Tell Me How (see links below).

Thanks for stopping by and if you enjoyed what you read please comment, resteem, follow (or all 3 if you really want to show some love)!
