Steemit song coming SOON from @listentojon (Bricks) and @jpiper20 (Lil Nip)

in #music8 years ago (edited)

I've heard the beat and a few lyrics being tossed back and forth, Steemit rap song coming very soon by these two! In the mean time, this is the result of them collaborating in the past.

How they met, according to @ jpiper20
I was a freshman in college. I had been in school for about three weeks and was still settling in. I hadn't made very many friends, I was still trying to find my way around the huge campus and make it class in time. There was a bridge connecting the dorms to the parking lot and everyone liked to hang out on the bridge. People would jam music up there, smoke weed and whatever else. I was walking across the bridge to my truck one night, to grab my backpack, and I heard someone call out to me. I turned to see a pretty funny looking guy sitting on a bench. He was wearing big neon green skate shoes, baggy pants, a gold chain and he was a skinny guy but was wearing at least a XXX tank top. He was an interesting looking dude so I walk over to see what he wanted. This is the guy, to give you an idea of how I was feeling walking up to him haha.
As I walked up a huge smile spread across his face, like he knew something I didn't know. His first words to me were "Yo man! Are you a rapper?!" Puzzled, I responded with, "why would you think I am a rapper?" He says, "I don't know man you got the look, I feel like you're a rapper." I was wearing a pair of board shorts, a t-shirt and a white bandana around my head. I was a surfer kid so my hair was long and and I dressed like this pretty much everywhere I went.
Our conversation went on for a a few minutes..
Me: Well I play guitar and sing, but I have never tried rapping.
Him: So you write songs and stuff?
Me: Yeah man, I play guitar and all pretty much every single day.
Him: Dude you should try rapping. You got the look for it.

Like I said, I was in a brand new city and had hardly any friends, so I decided what the hell, sure, I'll try it. We exchanged numbers and I went on my way. His name was Jon by the way or as he liked to be called, Bricks. A couple of days later I went over to his house and we started making a beat together. We were going to the same school, me for graphic design and him for sound design. It was a lot of fun, making an entire beat from scratch. Bricks was actually a super talented producer. We were smoking a little herb and drinking some beers in the process, to loosin up a little. After an hour or so the beat was where we wanted it. We started writing lyrics. It was a little tough for me, I was used to writing lyrics that were to be sang. When you are writing a rap, there has to be a lot more words in your verses and it is a huge change in tempo.

We worked on our lyrics the few days until we had them memorized, then it was time to record. We rolled up a fat joint and started recording. Smoking while we recording just helped us relax. it helped our true emotion come out. We didn't think about anything else in the world except that song we were working on. We were just in his living room with a shitty mic and garageband. Behold, the first time I ever rapped. I am in the first verse, you can tell which voice is mine the entire song, it's super high pitch haha. Here is our first song, Brand New.

I will never forge the years we all hung out and made songs, got drunk and freestyled or just sat on the back porch with music blaring. Music helped build a friendship. Bricks and I still talk all of the time and he is actually planning to come visit. Maybe he will make it in time for the Steemit music video! Follow me and stay tuned, you are not going to want to miss this Steemit song!
