If you’re into legendary artists like Stevie Wonder or Marvin Gaye then I invite you to check out the brand new self-titled EP by JonPaul Wallace. Listen to the EP right now on your favourite streaming service: https://songwhip.com/jonpaul-wallace/jonpaul-wallace
The EP starts off with the song ‘Here We Go’ and this is what I would describe as the perfect opening track for any EP or album in the pop genre. The first thing the listener gets to hear are the drums and as soon as the bass and vocals kick in at around 4 seconds it becomes obvious that this artist has done his homework. In other words, he knows how to write catchy tunes that make you move. The bass-line works perfectly with the drums and both make the vocals shine. I also like the fact that the voice is not hidden behind a ton of instruments or effects, there is basically just drums, bass and then a piano melody in the chorus. Speaking of the chorus, it’s kept very simple and contains 3 words - Here we go. In my opinion, a good song does not need many words and manages to move the listener with a core message. This is exactly what’s happening here and JonPaul Wallace did a great job with this opening track of the EP.
The second song is called ‘I Am Built To Win’ and while the official press release says that his music is like ‘if Bruno Mars played a set of John Mayer songs to demonstrate what Shawn Mendes’s Music sounds like to a group of sheltered teenagers who haven’t heard of any of them’, I have to say that this tune gives me Justin Timberlake and One Republic vibes, which is definitely a good thing. The other thing that I notice is that this is once again catchy as hell and so far both of those tracks are very impressive. I also approve of the core message of this, which is ‘I am built to win’ (as the title suggests). This song is much more electronic than the previous one, but again the background melodies are not overpowering the outstanding vocal performance and songwriting skills by Wallace.
Song number 3 is called ‘Say No More’ and the first thing I notice here is the fact that a guitar is used, which is always a good thing in my books. This track is also much more funky than the previous 2 and there are definitely some Bruno Mars vibes going on here. What’s really impressive is the fact that the vocals are flawless for the third time in a row and Wallace manages to hit the high notes every time, yet he is not going over the top and just showing off for no reason. There is a level of style and passion here that I think will be greatly appreciated by a large audience all over the globe. The final thing that stands out to me here is the fantastic piano melody that just makes you get up and dance.
The fourth track is called ‘Speechless’ and I’m getting Justin Timberlake vibes, similar to song number 2. There is a super smooth electric guitar melody here, accompanied by a funky bass line and tight drums. Once again the songwriting skills are out of this world. I love the chorus line ‘if these walls could talk, we’d leave’em speechless.’ I’m sure many listeners will be left speechless after hearing this EP, because it is just that good. The EP ends with the song ‘Underlying Feelings’, which is a great choice as a final track as it leaves the listener wanting to hear more from JonPaul Wallace!
While you may not be familiar with this EP, you may have heard of JonPaul Wallace since he actually had a viral video that accumulated over 20 million views on Youtube and other platforms. In the video he basically performed a rendition of ‘7 Years’ by Lukas Graham. In other words, he re-wrote the lyrics to the song and turned it into his own version for his high school graduation. Check out that performance here:
While I’m very impressed with the original songs on the EP, I’m perhaps even more impressed by his ability to re-write the existing song and personalise it for the high school graduation. I believe that only someone who truly loves singing and songwriting would go to such lengths and while there is an abundance of music out there these days, there aren’t many people who truly love what they do and are consistent at the same time.
So for all those reasons I can only recommend that you check out the incredible music by JonPaul Wallace right now and follow his journey on your preferred social media platform. Here are his official links:
