Razors Through Flesh goes for a beautiful drum & bass sound with their shimmering aural universes. Usage of samples throughout the pieces results in a weird, captivating sort of narrative that emerges. By utilizing such a collage-like approach everything simply teems with a tremendous amount of life. Stylistically, Razors Through Flesh anchors the whole sound with a strong adherence to a gritty sort of drum & bass, while elements of rock, industrial, and even a hint of isolationist ambient comes into the mix. At times Razors Through Flesh recall early Nine Inch Nails as the buildups and breakdowns of the piece at times touch upon a tenderness of sorts.

“Xenobiology Detected” refuses to let up. Starting out with various found samples Razors Through Flesh crafts an entire storyline with these mere snippets. Weaving them in and out of the distorted groove makes it a pure joy. Volume deserves to be blasted for Razors Through Flesh intends this to be an all-consuming, all-encompassing sort of style. For the finale of the track Razors Through Flesh goes for a soothing, almost dreamy moment. Going for a stately approach the mystical trip of “The song at the center of the world” chooses to ride on literal waves of distortion. Elements of dub filter in and out of the mix alongside wordless vocals. Nimbleness comes to truly define the piece while Razors Through Flesh plays with listener expectations, resulting in a series of twists and turns.

Going for a raw visceral approach works wonders for Razors Through Flesh’s surreal, satisfying style.
