I believe that our hobbies may not always be something that we are expert of. It is something we love to do, something that we are interested in, something that makes us happy doing.

I could not remember anymore when this hobby of mine was started. I grow up with a family who love’s music. My late mom and dad used to sing together. All of my siblings play guitar and sing too.

I remember when I was in my elementary years I was tempted to join singing contests. So funny because I was so brave when I was still at home but when I reached the place where the audition takes place, I no longer have the guts to present myself for the audition.

Perhaps within me, I believe that I can sing but my ability or real performance doesn’t convince myself that I can do it in front of hundreds of audience. So I used to back out, 😊. This means losing a contest many times without even trying…

It was my younger brother who made it and won a lot of times. He performs well, but I don’t envy him LOL. I’m happy because God gave him the talent which was not given to me 100% 😊.

When I was in high school, my interest in singing become intense. I mean when I see my classmate really do well in singing, I also wanted to be like them. Although that time I don’t have the machinery to learn or even enhance the little skill that I have. No one’s offering voice lesson yet that time. I mean within our area since I grow up in a province far from big cities. So even if I joined our school’s choir? I still feel my singing ability is not improving.

Apart from such inability or lack of singing expertise, I still love singing and do it once in a while until I reached college. Although I am no longer had this desire to join contests, nonetheless I used to imagine myself singing with the big stars on TV, 😊. Sounds crazy but that’s how I love singing.

When I was in college, I had a group of friends who are also fond of singing although that time we used to sing Christian songs since we belong to a religious organization, and once in a while had a singing session in one of my friend’s house. So I can say there was never a time in my life wherein I left or forgot my passion in singing.

My interest and love in singing grows more when I left Philippines for a work abroad. In a place like Saudi Arabia wherein almost everything is prohibited, the only thing you can do (although not in public) is to sing inside your room or within your accommodation as long as no one can hear you outside.

Now, this is the most sensational and controversial part of my singing career 😊. After about 20 years I became strong enough to face a singing battle. I can see all of the contestants, I mean I knew their capacity that’s why, 😊.

It was actually an in-house singing contest with around 50 audiences. Our company initiated and sponsored that activity in celebration of the Christmas season.

And you know what? I won a two burner gas stove for the third prize 😊. Yes, you heard it right, I was the top 3 out of 4 contestants 😊. This made me laugh out loud while I am writing this part. I should have said I won the third prize but the number of contestants is only 3 😊.

It was fun and I still remember it until now. If it will happen again? I’m sure would participate still!
Well, I think I am not the only one who has this hobby. Filipinos have a strong inclination to music or singing in particular. Wherever you go you will see Filipinos who excels in singing, aside from that every time there are occasions at home, a singing session is always present.

This is what we normally do. When I spend my vacation in the Philippines last December, we used to sing every day. My kids are also fond of singing, even my 7-year-old son would not want to give the microphone to us 😊.

Here in Saudi, we used to sing once or twice every week and sometimes more. Every time someone celebrates his birthday or when someone is leaving for vacation, we don’t really miss to have a singing session. It became our number one pastime.

Truly our life here in Saudi is so boring. Singing for me is my only outlet to get away from boredom and lessen everyday stress.

This hobby is shared by my colleague’s @jie28, @engrrivera0621, @tjcdc and the expert @g10a. In fact, 4 of us joined @openmic many times but obviously, it is only @g10a who excels. I mean he won many times already in this contest.

For me joining such contest is just for fun. I never expect to win considering those great singers and musicians from all over the world who are constantly joining. Honestly, aside from just doing something I so love to do, I am also after with the little SBD’s I get every time I join LOL. But I tell you it wasn’t an easy task especially for a person who only love music but music doesn’t love him in return LOL. It takes a lot of courage to upload your rendition to YouTube and share it with the rest of the steemians.

But yes I’ve done it a couple of times and would love to do it again. Perhaps when the expert will arrive from vacation 😊. He is my singing buddy who always encourages me to sing even if he knows I don’t possess even ¼ of his golden voice, 😊.
