RE: ADSactly Mystery: The Siberian Indians

in #mystery5 years ago (edited)

This is a great post. We usually associate indians with 3rd world countries and forget that every single culture has native inhabitants (first generations or indigenous peoples) to whom all histories go back to.
I am not surprised at this:

The Soviet regime could not tolerate a population that lived freely and couldn’t care less about party ideology. Soviet authorities went to great lengths to assimilate the Siberian ethnic groups, who were forced to abandon their nomadic way of life and settle into villages.

Similar things were done in Venezuela in the last 20 years. New constitutional laws granted indians their land and nationhoods until they became indifferent to ideological indoctrination and started to defend their land from, say, gold exploitation. Then, they became terrorists for all intents and purposes.
So much for vindicating a history of colonial domination. Now our indians are kiled by the government that swore to rescue them from neo-colonial capitalism.

A real human tragedy

In another generation or two [their language] will die out just like many other languages of the Siberian ancient populations.

The strange thing is they tried to force a new way of life on them long before authorities in Moscow became interested in natural resources in the area, like they are today for instance.
