거울효과

몰카’라 불리는 불법촬영이 우리 사회의 중요한 문제가 되고 있습니다. 스마트폰의 발달로 어디서나 쉽게 화질이 뛰어난 사진을 쉽게 찍을 수 있게 되면서 확산되는 부작용 중 하나입니다. 단속과 처벌이 계속됨에도 불구하고 도무지 근절되지 않는 것은 사람 마음 깊은 곳에 훔쳐보고 싶은 욕망이 자리 잡고 있기 때문이 아닐까 싶습니다.

이런 가운데 지난 해 말경 서울 지하철 2호선 홍대입구역 스크린도어에 ‘거울’이 등장했습니다. 지하철을 기다리는 사람들의 자기 모습과 주변 사람들의 움직임까지 한눈에 볼 수 있는 커다란 크기의 거울입니다.

이것은 소위 ‘불법촬영 예방 거울’로 ‘캐논’이라는 기업이 펼치고 있는 예방법 중 하나였습니다. 캐논은 홍대입구역뿐 아니라 서울 시내 주요 역사 8곳에 이런 예방 거울을 설치했습니다.

이런 거울은 보행자에게는 뒤에 있는 사람이 보여 심리적 안정감을 주며, 범죄자에게는 자신의 얼굴이 노출되어 범죄기회를 차단하는 심리적 효과가 있다고 합니다. 이것이 소위 ‘거울효과’입니다. 실제로 미국의 심리학자 ‘비맨’이 실험을 통해 입증한 효과이기도 합니다. 누군가 보고 있다고 느껴지면 부정적인 행동을 줄이게 되는 심리를 이용한 것입니다.

우리 그리스도인에게도 매우 중요한 거울이 있습니다. 그것은 바로 성경 말씀입니다. 이 말씀은 우리 자신을 비춰보게 합니다. 나의 아름다운 모습뿐 아니라 잘못된 점도 스스로 보게 하는 효과가 있습니다.

2018년 한 해 동안 우리 자신을 보게 하는 성경 말씀을 거울삼아 건강한 모습을 만들어가기를 다짐합시다.
