Adventurous Ones -- Building a Wood & Strawbale House - Intro

in #naturalbuilding4 years ago (edited)

So here we are, 3 years later ... our daughter was born, and we are building a house, so its been rather busy.
But I'm considering to start showing off some of the hard work we did :O)

Long story short;
We were wanting to build a proper house of (mostly) eco materials.
My wife has some land at the end of a dirtroad, next to a village in southwest Istria, Croatia.

There is no utilities, water /powergrid here, but the land is designated building land, so we decided to go for a licensed project. We found a friendly architekt to help us shape our ideas into paper, and after a year or so, ended up getting our building license, for an 80m2 house, wood structure, with strawbale walls and cob/clay/sand finish.

After all groundwork, digging and concrete jobs were done, we started the first wood construction in september 2019.

We are now proud owner of a raw built house, and are working this winter to finish inside walls, chimney, water system, etc.

In the coming months I will post a series of photos and text to illustrate the building process step by step, for myself as an overview, and to share with others interested. We have come a long way, and learnt about every facet of the design and building proces. We have been working mostly by ourselves or in small teams, guided by professionals in every field, and helped by a few friends. Without them and their knowledge, this would have proven impossible, thank you so much ... !
