What's the difference of coconut oil from coconut milk? (THE PROCESS)

7gauujsqhe.jpg

Of course it's came from the coconut fruit. But you can't just extract coconut oil right away, it's going through a process. Yes, there's a process in extracting coconut oil from coconut tree. But the only part of the coconut fruit that will be used in extracting is it's flesh. For you to know, coconut fruit is covered by a coconut brush and coconut shell. Before you can see the flesh of the fruit inside you need to cut it into half.

Let's have some a little bit explanation what is the difference of coconut milk and coconut oil? The difference of them are the process. To have a coconut milk you need to grill the flesh of the coconut. You'll going to remove the brush by using a "bolo" or hard sharp materials. If you remove already the brush you'll going to cut it with that "bolo" again. Long ago you can grill coconut through a "kaguran." A "kaguran" is bisayan word that was made only for grilling coconut fruit.
This is the old modeldwh3w0duqu.jpg
made from metal and put some curves at edge to use in grilling.
The new modelipl7hvej7o.jpg
You can find it in google, this function from electricityqo2gsufx8c.jpg

Now we have the grilling materials, when you grilled the coconut fruit you can put a little bit water or pour it with lot of water but it's not that pure. You need to press and press it to make the water mixed into the grilled coconut flesh. That's how we can create a coconut milk.

How about in coconut oil? Actually I don't know how was the process in extracting the oil from coconut fruit but I do know when the coconut oil to be extracted from coconut flesh. Before that let me show you how they removed the coconut flesh from the coconut shell.iflwqbsu9x.jpg

When the person cut the coconut fruit into half by using an axe or bolo. We have a material that was made only for removing coconut flesh from the shell. Too bad I can't show you any about that removing material. Even though I can't show you at least you will know it's name, the name of it is "lugi"(bisayan dialect)k8ujxli8bl.jpg

Another information about using coconut fruit to use. The coconut should be ripened, it's not that it will be soft. You know coconut fruit can be used as salad from the word "buko." Buko came from coconut fruit but that's the time when the fruit is ready to eat. While in extracting a coconut oil and coconut milk, you should check if the cover or the coconut brush will have different colours like this.pvpb17262f.jpg

When you'll see the colour of the coconut fruit will be like this. That's the time it's ready to do "copra". I don't know what kind of word is "kopra" but it's a bisayan dialect. That's what the people said when the coconut fruit is ready to be harvested. Also this is like a finished material that will be ready to sold, it's "copras."

Removing the flesh from the shell is not yet ended the work. They need to place it under the sun for 3 whole day with a very hot weather. If there will be a rain they will put it in a "tapahan"(bisayan dialect) Tapahan is like a waiting shed but made just for this reason. The coconut flesh should be dried before it will sell. There's a hole under of it and there's a floor over the hole where the coconut flesh will be place into it. The process is opposite but the result is the same.1ww8z4ohjk.jpg

This is tapahan, there's a hole under and the floor above. But this tapahan is not ready when rain comes because it doesn't have a rooftop. That's the process to make a coconut flesh dry and ready to sell. In extracting oil from the coconut I think it should be dry so when it will undergo in wet-milling machine it can easily extract oil.

There you have it, dries the flesh and sell it to the market to provide as coconut oil. If you want coconut milk, the flesh will be grilled to extract coconut milk but of course mix it with water.
