The Morrocoy Sabanero

Hello friends of steemit, in this opportunity I will make a brief review about the terrestrial turtle or morrocoy sabanero as it is known here in Venezuela.

Characteristic

It is a black reptile has a long and slightly convex shell with the center of the shields light brown and yellow, the head and legs are dark with red and yellow spots, the plastron can be smooth yellow or with black drawings, has a size around 50 cm long but most usual is that they measure 35 cm, males have a longer and wider tail, anal shields are much more open, can reach 100 years of life.

Habitat

It is distributed in Panama, Colombia, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, Suriname, Brazil, Bolivia, Paraguay, Caribbean Islands and Venezuela, where it lives in the humid forests, forests, plains, where the vegetation that predominates is grass.

Feeding

Their diet is mainly made up of vegetables, but they can also feed on larvae of insects, worms, flowers and fruits.

Reproduction

After mating, the females lay two to five eggs, digging a 12-centimeter-deep hole, incubation takes 124 to 185 days, the hatchlings are born at the beginning of the rainy season. At birth its size is 19 inches (4.8cm) more or less.

Here in my country Venezuela is known as morrocoy sabanero, but its scientific name is Chelonoidis Carnonaria.
