What is this WEIRD BEHAVIOR? - That Large Tortoise Dance

in #nature7 years ago (edited)

Do A Little Dance

Get down tonight! What is this? CoCo is our large male African Spurred Thigh Tortoise, A.K.A. Sulcata. He moves around the farm eating grass like a cow. He's actually very efficient to mow down the grass. This one time we caught him doing this little dance.

What is your guess?

  • Mating Dance
  • Itchy Belly
  • Dancing for Fun
  • Workout - Leg Day
  • Other (please explain)

These options are also comments below. UPVOTE your guess!! This will be fun :)

Tenderizing the tougher bits of vegetation. I believe the proper term is 'muddling'.

;~P

Interesting. I never would have thought of that as an option. :)

Probably totally wrong, too, but it seemed 'reasonable'. Lol!

All guesses are worth something LOL

I will go with this...

He's definitely busting a move! :D

I have raised African spured thighs before. That's a male right he has the flipper tusk? Is he over 10? I did love mine so much lulu and crush.

He is approximately 17 years old.

Interesting that they live to 80 yrs old..

Yes, this big boy will likely be around long after I'm gone :)

There are some stories of them living more than 100, but 70-80 is more typical I guess.

@daddykirbs, I know that feeling. All three of our Macaws will outlive us. Makes you wonder about how to provide for them. Oh, and I thought he was stuck and trying to wiggle out!

This is an inappropriate vote from @cheetah. There is no copied content from the "how to light a bee smoker" post. When this post was first published I accidentally left some of the footer from the other post. It has been edited out.

... but thanks @cheetah for a link to my previous post!

Cute! My guess is Itchy Belly.

Thanks for sharing.
