Birds and the Musa paradísiaca
Plantain or banana; It is not a tree, "but a megaforbia, a large perennial herb" that can be grown in tropical countries. Scientifically known as Musa paradisíaca, this interesting plant is recognized for having one of the largest leaves in the plant kingdom, its fruit is very rich in calories, fiber, carbohydrates, vitamin A and C.
El plátano o banano; no es un árbol, sino una megaforbia, una hierba perenne de gran tamaño que se puede cultivar en paises tropicales. Conocida científicamente como Musa paradisíaca), ésta interesante planta es reconocida por tener una de las hojas más grandes en el reino vegetal, su fruto es muy rico en calorias, fibra, carbohidratos, vitamina A y C.
We cultivate and consume the two varieties: the plantain is prepared in different ways; fried, cooked, roasted, in cakes (when it is ripe) and in patacones (when it is green) and the banana we eat when it is ripe (which means yellow ;) directly, only remove the skin and eat. We use their leaves for our typical dishes known as tamal and chupao, I'll tell you about these later c;
Nosotros cultivamos y consuminos las dos variedades: el plátano lo preparamos de diferentes maneras; frito, cocinado, asado, en tortas (cuando esta maduro) y en patacones (cuando esta verde) y el banano lo comemos cuando esta maduro (quiero decir amarillo) directamente, solo quitar la cascara y ya. Y sus hojas las utilizamos para nuestros platos típicos conocidos como tamal y chupado. Que después les voy a contar.

Now we know that Musa paradísiaca is a delicious hybrid that both humans and birds can enjoy, the goal is to spread the species much more, because there are more birds every day that we want to observe and identify.

Are these photos from the cafetal? We are trying to grow more too. Love the birds coming around to have a feast. There is plenty for them and us too! It is funny what excites homesteaders. Yesterday we were thrilled to find a nest of baby squirrels in our Sabo tree. We have heard little raccoons too but haven't found them yet.
Ah! We love animal nests! Squirrels are the nemises of most farmers but we love to see them jumping around, we also have some other mammals, never seen a racoon this far south though....
We have been surprised on several occasions when we have spotted them. When you don't want them to get the garden you sprinkle hot pepper powder around them. Animals don't care for piquant!
Yes, we have planted the coffee plants with others such as, banana, plantain and fruit and timber trees. I think birds like it a lot. :)
Oh cool that is awesome! Love this post :) That woodpecker is gorgeous. I love woodpeckers. The pileated woodpecker we have here in Oregon is a beautiful showy bird as well.

You have a banana farm? I love to eat different type of bananas especially fried banana but i didn't know what the name specifically, I just call it banana :p In tropical country, it do grow a lot of bananas. You have a good photography skill. The color of the photo look nicely and you have took it in a right angle. You must have a lot of patience in oder to catch the Woodpecker.
Thank you very much. We have a farm in Colombia. Andean tropical area where we grow coffee, bananas, timber trees, fruit trees, ornamental trees and medicinal plants. There we observe the different interactions. :)
wow coffee.. The coffee is for your own consumption? My father used to have land with timber trees as well but next to it, he like to plant papaya, banana and cocoa. But not Coffee. Now already sold off due to no time to maintain.

What a splendid picture of the woodpecker having a feast on the banana, we have a whole lot of banana specie and even in my country, I have a plantation but I have only one specie ehcgt didn't resemble the one here.
I love the way you added video and pictures to really complement with the botanical names and the various banana types.
