Indonesia Coastline Full Of Coconut Tree

Who doesn't know coconut trees? At least you know the fruit. Yes, this tree is widely planted by the coconut farmers, I mean, more precisely, this tree grow itself where the fruit falls from the tree and stop somewhere, that's where it will grow. So along the coast in Aceh Province, where I live is surrounded by beaches, then this tree seen everywhere.

How It Spreading?

When I see amazing nature, I often wonder. Look at this coconut fruits. How fresh the water is. When its young it will be green with soft flesh. And when old he turns yellow. One of the way how this coconut could spreading is, If this tree grows on the seashore, then when the ripe fruit falls from the tree, the fruit can be carried away by the sea water, then the waves will take it wherever the waves drives it, and landed on another coastal land, so that he will grows. What a make sense explanation from the coconut farmer I heard. The other way is this tree planted by human hands.

Special tree.

Thank you God for creating this tree for humankind. This is a truly special tree, because from the root to the tip of the leaves all can be used by humans. So this tree has very good economic value. What are the functions and benefits of this tree? I would share you.

1. Root.

The design of this tree is very special. Look at the stringy roots, small and plenty. He can support the stem firmly grasp down the sand and withstands the impact of salty water, the sea winds and hurricanes that blow everyday. If this tree is dead or cut down, its roots can be made into doormats at the front door.

2. The Log.

Coconut tree trunks have beautiful and inexpensive fibers. The color tends to be dark. Although it is not included in first class wood, it is very much needed in household furniture manufacturer. Also often seen on display at furniture exhibitions. In the local villages, you will often find bridges made from these coconut tree trunks.

3. The fruit:

a. Drink The Water

The coconut water is very fresh as a thirst reliever, it can even be useful as a human infusion if you run out of food supplies to survive in wildlife. In my tropical country, the stinging sun is a daily good friend, so drinking fresh coconut water plus ice is what you wish. To find this coconut fruit just easy. Whether you pick it from your own yard and cut it yourself or buy it at a coconut seller's place. For one fresh coconut with ice is 10,000 rupiah or 0.7 dollars. I am often amazed how this tree roots take the saltwater on the beach but the fruit is not salty at all, instead it has fresh water!

b. Coconut Milk.

Here In Aceh and commonly in Indonesia the sellers of coconuts are divided into two: the sellers of green coconut and the brown one. The green one is for you to drink. While the brown one is the old coconut and grated fruit that squeezed, change it into coconut milk. Santan or coconut milk is processed as a mixture in Indonesian cooking specialties such as; Rendang, which is a very delicious beef dish, also includes Chicken Soto, Lamb Curry, Gulai Bebek, Lontong Kuah, also pancake snacks, pudding and pastries. The effect of savory coconut milk gives a flavor that I really miss when I'm abroad.

c. Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO)

If you know how to filter it properly then you will get virgin coconut oil which also has many benefits. Coconut milk that has been squeezed in the first juice can then be store until the water and the oil separated and taken the oil. This need a certain steps to telling maybe next time.

d. Dried Coconut Skin

The coconut fruit that we see, on the outer skin is covered by a kind of sweat fibers which is quite thick, that covering the fruit shell, and filled by soft fruit flesh and coconut water. This coconut fiber skin can make this fruit float in the ocean without sinking. Great creature. This fiber can be peeled with special tools by coconut farmers and sold to foot mat manufacturers. In addition, these fibers when they are dry, can also function as an orchid growing media.

4. The Leaves

The coconut leaves with a long and flat shape like a sword having hard and long bones in the middle. If the leaves and bones are separated, they have their own functions. As the bones can be made as a broom stick, I ever met a traditional broom stick craftsman in my town and saw the process. Then, the leaves can be woven into mats, seat mats, table mats, also the roof of the house and the roof of a small bungalow.

The tree that I captured is a young and short coconut tree, no need to climb to pick the fruit, just swing a machete. But if it is an old tree, certainly taller and you have to climb to be able to reach the fruit, sometimes a farmer train a monkey as a coconut picker. And, if you go to a coconut forest, remember to be careful walking under it, don't let it fall on your head, or you're auto go on hospital.

And this is one of the places in my town where I can get a green coconut fruit and the seller cut it with a machete and I can enjoy it in this bright daylight. Cheers! How about you, do you fancy a coconut? Can you find a coconut in your city? Let me know and share your experiences.
