Crabs are generally covered with a thick exoskeleton , composed primarily of highly mineralized chitin, and armed with a single pair of chelae (claws). "Crabs are found in all of the world's oceans, while many crabs live in fresh water and on land, particularly in tropical regions. Crabs vary in size from the pea crab , a few millimetres wide, to the Japanese spider crab , with a leg span of up to 4 metres (13 ft)." Wikipedia

Crabs are known by different names in Nigeria. It is mostly found in the south where there is swamp.

Recently, there has been a dearth of crabs around Nigerian markets unlike what used to be in my childhood days. So, I can only wonder, is crab an endangered species?. As a lover of #nature and #science, I would love to be enlightened on whether or not this is about to be extincted owing to their scare nature in recent years.

The ibibios call it "Isobo", the ibos call it "ochokoro". What do you call it in your dialect.
