After Hurricane Ida destroyed 1 in 4 Grand Isle buildings, demolition is on 'path to recovery'
On Grand Isle, 200 structures were completely wiped out by the storm. Another 466 sustained such heavy damage they should be demolished -- meaning nearly a quarter of the barrier island's structures were wiped out.
Interesting article about the damage from Hurricane Ida that happened on Grande Isle, and the recovery that is still going on all these months later. To me, it really shows how important barrier islands are to coastal protection inland. If not for barrier islands all the storm surge, and damage, would have to the wetlands inland, and after the wetlands are destroyed next is the communities further inland. And of course all of those barrier islands were built by the sediment from the Mississippi River.....

It looks like everything around it is disappearing into the water, not really a place to invest in for the long term.
I agree with that, maybe rent a place for the weekend, but building something there where it's not going to be insured, no thanks
It looks more like a vacation place probably not too many full time residence
Maybe people weren't meant to live on that island.....
It wouldn't be so bad if the island was always getting more sediment from the Mississippi River to rebuild what gets washed away from storms.
And the River doesn't flow that way anymore because....?
