Newborn kittens

Newborn kittens will be perfectly taken care of if we let nature act and are under the protection of their mother during their first weeks of life. It will be enough to provide them with a cushioned bed, clean and dry, and not to caress them too much, since the cat can get to reject them if we eliminate with our hands its characteristic smell.

If they are orphaned or rejected by their mother, in addition to keeping them warm and protected, we will have to feed them with a bottle up to four times a day, for which we will choose a veterinarian milk, since cow's milk can be harmful. We must also help the kittens to expel the first droppings by a gentle massage with cotton in the rectal area.
If the newborn kittens are well cared for and fed, within a few weeks of life they will begin to play and move, trying to jump out of the crib. Even the cat will stop being so aware of them. This is the time of weaning , in which we must begin to accustom them to drink for themselves the special milk for cats. For this we prepare a plate with milk and we will approach the puppies, who in a few days will have learned to drink independently without problems.
Later we will begin to introduce the water and the first solid foods , like pates and special feed for kittens.
Weaning is also the moment in which we must provide the kitten with a place to make his needs, such as a tray of sand , which will begin to use without any problem due to his instinct.
As for the cleaning of the kitten , his mother will take care of cleaning it during the first weeks. Then he starts to lick himself by instinct.
If we want to get used to bathing the cat ourselves, the time to start doing it is between the first and second month of life, always with a special shampoo and drying it perfectly after the bath. If our kitten is a long-haired breed, now is also the time to start getting used to daily brushing.
The kittens soon develop their hunter instinct , first playing with their mom and siblings, and later with our curtains and socks. To stimulate our kitten and keep it entertained without using our furniture for it, it is best to have different toys and scrapers with both of you will spend a very fun time.
