Lagoon Kilotoa, Ecuador

in #nature7 years ago

Lagoon Kilotoa is a lake in the crater of the volcano in the middle of the Ecuadorian peaks at an altitude of about 4.000 m. Its depth is about 250 meters.

It is also called the "Emerald Eye of the Andes" and is revered among the Indians as a special place where one can acquire strength.The color of the lake depends on the illumination and varies from emerald green to dark blue or dark green. Thanks to the mineral hot keys, the color of the lake acquires these fabulous shades.

The wooden platform from the local teakwood species has been built, which allows tourists to fully enjoy the splendor of the opening view.

The most wonderful time to visit the lagoon is early morning, when the sun only appears on the horizon. There are no people around. It's amazing to walk all alone in the crater of an extinct volcano.

Your pictures are impressive! Thanks for sharing some really cool shots!

Such an amazing view! Looks extremely relaxing & peaceful.

Wow!!! Can I ask a crazy question?
What animal is that?

@globearn
I think it's an apaca, but I'm not totally sure.

I agree looks like an Alpaca and my sister would love to get some of that wool to knit with :-) Wonderful pictures @oxiecuador

Okay. Nice pictures anyway.

This is Vicuña or the Alpaca pet. It looks like a llama, but smaller in size and more slender.

This Lagoon looks really impressive.
