Great news for nature lovers: Cancun adopted new anti-plastic law!
Hi there my Steemit friends and followers!
I am very excited to share this piece of news with you today as it came from a region where I currently live. Cancun, the biggest city and most famous tourist hotspot on Mexico´s Mayan Riviera, just adopted a new regulation that will significantly reduce the amount of plastic used (and disposed of) in the city and its surrounding.

After having lived in this part of Mexico for almost a year and a half now, I am really stoked on this thing because the plastic pollution of local beautiful and remarkably diverse nature and wildlife, has already been disturbing.
According to municipal officials, local industries and establishments will have just 90 days to switch to alternative materials, which sounds like an unusually fast and radical change.
Unfortunately, I haven´t found out whether the new measure is to ban plastic completely or just certain types/products but either way, it is a massive boost for morale of all environmentally conscious people like me who have been manually picking plastic trash on the beaches and in the sea here.

Hopefully, more cities and regions will follow the example of Cancun soon. If you want to read more about it, you can check, for example, this article.
I am not sure if I can use the #cleanplanet tag here as this post is not dedicated to my personal effort towards cleaner environment but I am sure most of my @cleanplanet fellows who have been supporting this amazing project run on the Steem blockchain will be pleased by this kind of news so I am including the tag ;)
We'll meet at the end of May to find out what's going to happen!
Thank you for sharing this kind of useful information!

Absolutely, I will keep you guys updated :) Thanks for what you have been doing here on the Steem blockchain, definitely one of my favorite projects here ;)
That's amazing! Now we just need the rest of the world to follow.
Exactly! :)
Sounds good!
Yeah! Sounds promising :)
No uvidíme. My stejně nežijeme přímo v Cancunu, takže bychom to neměli jak kontrolovat.
That's amazing man! Some great news to hear!
Unfortunately here in Thailand where I live - They are so far behind of banning anything related to plastic. It's absolutely terrible how much plastic they use here. I for myself try to buy as less as possible plastic but it's just not possible all the time as the entire food system is build up on it. Need to do more about it..
I hear you buddy. It was pretty much the same here. But SE Asia has a much larger population than Latin America (just Indonesia alone is close to 300 million already) so it is super important that these countries start doing something about the use of plastic. If people don´t realize and change behaviour themselves, governments need to take action and adopt new laws.

Hi @phortun!
Did you know Steem Basic Income has a Quality Policy?
Interesting enough, a few minutes before coming to your blog I was discussing the plastic issue here in London with a fellow hostel guest. Everything in London envolves around trash, especially plastic, tons and tons of trash generation every day.
It makes me glad that Mexico made such a huge step.
What? I thought the UK is one of the most eco-friendly countries in Europe! Do they recycle at least?
I have no idea, but I deliver food all day and the amount of unnecessary packaging is mind blowing, also if you go to the supermarket you'll see plastic in every single product.
Just to top it, a couple years ago some countainers showed up in a brazilian port, uppon opening it they discovered tons and tons of TRASH, literally. Guess where did it come from? The Uk. Needless to say the brazilian gov. sent it back.
What?! The British are sending their trash away on the sea? Wow. I had no idea. That sounds really weird.
Btw good to hear you nailed a job there mate! But I can imagine you are already thinking about being in the forests with your tent, right? ;) Concrete jungle will never compare to the real, natural jungle ;)
Great to hear this. I would also have hope the city I leave can adopt this also
Yeah, that would be cool. What city do you live in?
Niger in Nigeria
