Ice Storm of December 2013 - Part 2
Ice Storm of December 2013 - Part 2
In December 2013, we had a sleet and ice storm that covered everything in
our garden and yard with a layer of ice!
That year winter had arrived with a vengeance, more than 16 days early
to North Texas!

Here is my post of Part 1 Photos of this ice storm.
We had a low temperature of about 17 degrees F last night,
but no ice, snow or sleet!

What beautiful photos, this icing gives them a fabulous view. The nature surprise us. Thank you very much.
You're welcome!
Wow great photos. That brings back memories. Around the year 2000 there was an ice storm in my hometown in Indiana. We are used to snow, but the ice storm was something else. When branches of the ice covered trees started breaking off, they ripped apart power lines all over town. We were without power for over a month! As were the schools so no school. It was something else. For most of that month my family spent all day huddled together, freezing cold, around the fire. Fun times. I wish I had taken photos of it like you did.
Wow, your storm sounds crazy also!
Echoing @carleenp's thoughts. But I guess the new growth comes back again in Spring? And for now you have the unusual beauty of frozen leaves in Autumn shades. 🦋
I went to bed worried for your pecan tree, last night, (and now you show us more victims!) and I meant to ask you how everything recovered, since the plants were all hit so suddenly. They say that if plants freeze when wet, they are actually better protected against any following cold (shielded). But pecans sound so exotic to me, I wonder how it did that following spring/summer, and especially how was the harvest that fall?
The trees were all fine - they can take the freezing temps. Yes, the pecan tree just lost a few branches, but put on more pecans the next spring! The squirrels steal all of the pecans before they are ready to harvest! We mainly just get to enjoy the shade and oxygen it provides!
You see beauty in everything, and I enjoy your work
can be a pain if you need to get somewhere but your photos make it look so beautiful
Thank you! Yes, it did look pretty on all of the plants!
very pretty
Have a great day
Amazing shots but makes me "burrr cold."
Beautiful, but I hope the plants will be be OK!
