NBA Summer League: Lonzo Ball impresses in Lakers win over 76ers

After one game in the 2017 #Nba Summer League in Las Vegas, plenty of sports fans were ready to call the No. 2 NBA Draft pick a bust. After several more games to give better statistical data, Lonzo Ball of the #Los Angeles Lakers is beginning to show why he could be a superstar in the league years down the road. On Wednesday night, Ball went on a scoring outburst and achieved a double-double, while just a bit shy of his second triple-double in the past few games. Here's a look at how Lonzo Ball and the L.A. Lakers topped the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday night.

Ball leads Lakers
In 36 minutes of game action for the Lakers, Ball scored just as many 36 points.

The rookie out of UCLA went 12-for-22 from the field including a 3-for-10 three-point rate. However, he tallied 36 points. That wasn't all though, as his stat line included dishing out 11 assists to teammates and snatching eight boards. In addition, he stole the ball five times and recorded two blocked shots, possibly answering some of the critics questioning his defense. His six turnovers and two personal fouls are mere afterthoughts based on the rest of the stat line.

Making Lonzo's night even sweeter was the fact he helped the team grab a one-point victory over the Philadelphia Sixers, 103-102. Even though it was Summer League, the competition is still there, and Magic Johnson had to be loving what he saw from his No. 2 pick.

The Los Angeles Lakers also got 21 points from Ivica Zubac and a double-double of 13 points and 12 boards from Kyle Kuzma.

As a team, they shot 51.4 percent from the field and won the rebounding battle 37-34.

The Sixers continued to play without Markelle Fultz due to a high ankle sprain suffered in a previous Summer League game. Philly was led by Furkan Korkmaz's 19 points and Alex Poythress' 16-point outing.

NBA Summer League Las Vegas runs through July 17th so there's still plenty of games left to enjoy. Next up for the Los Angeles Lakers will be a Thursday night game against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Game time is set for 10:30 p.m. Eastern Time with ESPN2 set to televise the event. Live streaming will be available through the WatchESPN website or mobile apps.

While the Cleveland Cavaliers' Summer League team may not feature Kyrie Irving or LeBron James, the team has been 3-0 so far in league play. This should provide another interesting test for the young star Lonzo Ball to show what he's capable of. Of course, the ultimate test will be once he starts facing the best of the best in the NBA on a nightly basis. #No 2
