Custom Hunting Blind Project... Part 2

It's Finished!!

Before...

I worked all last week on this project. I delivered it Monday, and sooooo wanted to post Monday for #NeedleworkMonday, but the weather kept us from putting it up that evening.

Today, I received the pics of the finished product from a very happy customer. Time to Share!

For those of you just joining this project, I was asked to customize this portable building into a Hunting Blind by adding six windows.

Here's where I left off with my Cool Project... Hunting Blind (part one).

Pictured above is the "hook" side of the velcro pinned onto the material. I defined each window this way on three sides. I ran two rows of stitching to secure it to the tenting.

Below is the window bottom. I defined it with a piece of bias tape. I included a loop on the bottom of each window and later added a plastic bead of sorts on the opposite side to hook through the loop to secure the open window flap.

I cut along the inside of the velcro edge to create the opening on three sides, leaving the bottom connected.

This material was fantastic to work with. I stressed for weeks about it for no reason.

The owner has trouble with his hands, so I crafted the "loop" side of the velcro to have a wide casing which could easily be grabbed to pull the window open or shut. The full length velcro allows the windows to be opened any amount desired.

Here are the sides in various stages of construction.

First, I pressed one edge of the linen I was using to form a folded edge. I then placed the velcro over this seam and stitched it down once on the edge near my fold. I ran another stich along the fold to secure it. Last, and not pictured, I pressed the other raw edge flush with the velcro, creating a channel to place the cut window piece into.

Once the velcro pieces were lined up and secured with excessive pins, I secured these pieces by running a double stitch holding them in place.

I also secured the bottom of the window where the velcro halves joined by stitching three times across so they couldn't pull apart and rip the vinyl tenting.

I added the bead half of the loop system to hold the open window up off the ground. I somehow skipped photos of this, but they can be seen on the close up later in this post.

Here is the first window finished. It's folded so you can see how both the inside and outside of the window look.

I think they turned out pretty awesome, and as things often go, they all look better than the one before.

The next step was to make five more windows. Placing two on each side and one on each end.

I tackled this job production style. I cut and prepped five sets of window bits.

Then sewed, and sewed, and sewed.

It was super challenging working on this large item on my little home machine. Yet, I delivered it with confidence that it would be what the customer wanted.
