Needlework Monday - Yay I’m Knitting!!! 😃
Hello my lovely crafters and viewers!!!! Welcome to another #NeedleworkMonday! If you haven’t seen it yet @crystalize made a wonderful invitation post for our special day. You can view her post Here. Please take the time to show her some love and appreciation and Upvote the post as well as Resteeming it so other crafters will know about Mondays.
I found @crystalize’s blog and fell in love with her handmade Victorian style lampshades. I immediately invited her to join us for #NeedleworkMonday and she responded promptly with “I’m in, I’ll see you on Monday’s! It didn’t end there though. A couple of days later she reached out to me and told me she upvoted and followed everyone that had shared the previous Monday. Then she told me to let her know what she can do to help bring more crafters to share on Monday. I told her if she comes across posts that involves a needle craft she could invite them. She then spent a couple of nights inviting lots and lots of crafters to join in and she received several confirmations that some would be joining. Later that evening I saw her open-invitation post which was lovely done and I was so thrilled to see her jump right in and help spread the word. So I say thank you again @crystalize for all of the work you put into this already. It takes awhile going through posts finding crafters to invite but with this kind of help it makes it a lot easier ;)
Today I wanted to share the knitting work that I started. We have a few that share their knit work on Monday’s and I have been truly inspired to learn. I already had size 50 US knitting needles from when I made this Broomstick Lace Scarf. I also had plenty of bulky yarn on hand so I decided to give it a go with what I had.
Here is my cast on. I watched several YouTube videos to see the different ways people were doing this. I wanted to find an easier one that I could follow along with and understand. I wanted to make sure I started my stitches out tight and neat since I was using a bulky yarn, I didn’t want it to look sloppy in the end.
As I was doing the first row I started to memorize the steps towards the end and found a rhythm to what I was doing. I was anxious to keep going to see where this would go.
At this point I began to realize something. I already knew how to knit. I have done a few arm knitted scarves and the broomstick lace scarf required a few knitting techniques. So as I was moving along I start putting everything together and I was smooth sailing. I am going to get smaller needles soon so that I can practice with regular sized yarn.
This is how far I got before I finished for the night. I am going to try to make this into an infinity neck warmer. We’ll see how it goes and if I don’t get frustrated and start on something else lol. So all my knitting friends you tell me what you think. Does it look like knitting? I feel my stitches should be straighter but I figured it was because of the bulky yarn. 🤷🏽♀️
Thanks for viewing my first attempt at knitting with needles! I’m looking forward to getting better and getting as comfortable with this as I am with crocheting :)
I am looking forward to seeing all of the crafters that will be joining us! 🤗
Glad to see you're knitting. What a nice color! I have been out of my routine of reading my normal blogging friends. Life has been crazy this week. I'll have to check out the needle work Monday post too! Thanks for sharing it. Hope you're doing well.
Thank you!!!! It’s going to take some getting used to. I definitely understand that. Sometimes it gets that way and you just have to hop back in when you can :)
Yes @crystalize has really helped spark things and more crafters will be joining us!! I’m doing pretty good this week, getting a lot of needed cleaning done. Thanks for much for stopping by ;)
It's so pretty, @crosheille! I LOVE the color you selected, and the stitch looks really cool the way it alternates from raised to flat. You're making me want to learn to knit. LOL.
Thanks for the kind words regarding my "recruitment" (tee hee) efforts for our group! It is so nice to be with others who share a passion for needlework, and I fully support your incredibly good idea.
Thank you so much! I’ve been wanting to knit with needles for awhile now so I said why not start now?
You’re absolutely welcome and I meant every word. It is really nice sharing with others who have the same passions, it’s so much fun!! I’m so glad you loved the idea and hopped right on board ;)
Yep, I'm in!! LOL!
😄
Woah! Look at you go!! My hat goes off to you for learning!
Thank you so much!! Let’s see if I can stick to it :D
@crosheille This is great! I started knitting about 2.5 years ago and it's really amazing how fast you can catch on if you're into it. The most encouraging thing I've learned is that it's all doable and even easy--even the dreaded lace!--as long as you pay attention to what you're doing and where you are in the pattern. Keep up the good work!
P.S. How do I join this #NeedleworkMonday?
Thank you so much @colleenthurber! I really appreciate the encouragement! I have learned already once I get off track it’s hard to get back on. Because it’s new to me I don’t know how to correct a mistake so I had to start over. I do plan on sticking with it and improving. I love the way a knitted project looks and I want to continue so I can get really good at it.
I see you have already posted for #NeedleworkMonday!! It’s so good to have you! I’ll be checking out your post soon ;)
Yay! Good for you that you have taken the first step. Now I feel inspired to do the same. I already have the needles and lots of yarn. The only thing stopping me was my mad rush to finish crocheting all those slipper socks for gifts. I even found a pattern I like...which says "easy" but I have my doubts from looking at it. Thanks for posting this!
Thank you!!!! I hesitated for awhile now to get started because I knew it would be out of my comfort zone. I am glad I gave it a go but the next project I choose for practice I will definitely have smaller needles and yarn lol. I don’t know how I feel about the chunky look. I feel it doesn’t give the stitches any justice.
Oh yes I think you should give it a go and then post it!!! Do you have smaller needles? Wow you are bold to try a pattern, I’m so nervous. 😬 It would be like alien language to me. That’s the other reason I hesitated was because I didn’t want to learn another needle language. 😅
I do have smaller needles that a friend gave me. I will probably start out with a swatch and see how it goes. It can't be any harder than learning the language of crochet! Although I am alot older now....hmm, easier to learn new things before your brain fills up!
Oh cool! Well if you try please share!!! Lol yes I’m getting older too and it is best we use our brains while they are still functioning properly! 😅
The color is excellent. I also know how to knit, but I do not have time, I have many other things to do and I have a knitting machine.
Thank you! Wow a knitting machine? I would love to see that in action! I have very little time on my hands with homeschooling and completing orders. I try to find time to learn something new while the kids are napping or if I am home by myself. I do wish I had more time in a day.
The machine is in boxes for now. I rarely use it. When I knit a dress for myself, I'll tell you about this necessarily!))
Oh okay I understand.
Cynthia, you're done well !!!!! you still started to try to knit !! it's great!!!! at first it will not be very convenient to do it, but then your hands will get used to it and you will be much easier. with a cumbersome knitting yarn work harder because it requires more effort for the hands. but if you study on it then with ordinary yarn you will be very easy :)
Thank you so much for your feedback. I did feel I had to work a little harder keeping my stitches right with the bulky yarn. I probably should have waited to start with a regular size yarn. I do hope it starts to feel more natural to me because it is still a little awkward.
I still have time when I'm knitting a new pattern for me. at first the hands get used to some time. but then it's easy for me to knit. I'm sure that you will succeed and you will like it. then you will combine knitting and crochet. it looks beautiful on the product.
Thank you for having faith in me :D. How did you know I wanted to combine knitting with crochet? I am really looking forward to doing that!! 🤗
