NeedleWorkMonday - Important Updates

C3AFE71E-386C-489C-A24D-8458B5287EF5.jpeg

Greetings needleworkers and community supporters! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! I want to thank everyone for the upvotes and resteems of the @needleworkmonday account. It’s been a lot fun time curating your wonderful articles! I’m looking forward to seeing more join us on Monday’s and for more supporters to come onboard as well.

As of right now I am solely running the @needleworkmonday account. This consists mainly of upvotes, resteems and curation. I had a conversation with @shanibeer and @marblely about listing out what tasks need to be done to maintain the account and then reaching out to the needlework community for volunteers to help.

Before I get into the tasks I want to say the vision I had for the #needleworkmonday initiative was to create a fun, relaxed and supportive space where we share what we love to do. It doesn’t need to be complicated or become too much work for anyone. There is an easy way to use our voting power to build our SP without creating a service that requires payment.

I personally am not comfortable with the trailvotes/autovotes because I don’t want to be responsible for anyone’s posting key. When I first joined I was told by several veterans to never give anyone access to it (there have been hacking issues, unauthorized votes etc.) On top of that it will be more work for someone to keep track of it all. Just as everyone I have other priorities to take care of and cannot be online 24/7.

Also the main focus of #needleworkmonday is needlework. The @needleworkmonday account is here to support and reward only these types of posts. We have been working hard to get our work seen and appreciated more. Many of you have taken more time to add more value to your posts by showing the steps it took to get to the outcome and it is inspiring others. I believe that getting more exposure and support will encourage everyone to continue making quality posts.

Tasks

It would be great to have at least two others onboard helping out with some of these tasks keeping in mind the guidelines listed in this post to be followed...

Curation - This includes upvoting Monday’s posts from our get together, choosing the posts to be featured and making the featured post.

This also entails taking the account for a weekly walk upvoting needlework posts and inviting those crafters to join us (this is how our voting power will be used throughout the week). There will be a generic invite message for you to use as a template if needed.

Resteems - Every Monday several posts from our gathering needs to be Resteemed to the account. This helps our needleworkers gain more exposure and makes their post easily accessible from the account. These resteems are a representation of who we are and what we do at #needleworkmonday!

Maintenance - This is making sure the #needleworkmonday tag is being used relevantly and appropriately. I don’t want anyone getting comfortable with using the tag irreverently for their posts. If it is not needlework related it should not be used. I have kindly asked several people not to do so and they have complied and discontinued their use of it.

This also includes encouraging the community to support one another and not just come to drop their post and leave. I’m not saying that every post needs to be upvoted but each needleworker should shoot to visit at least 3 other needleworkers and spread some love every Monday they are posting :)

The other part of this is reminding everyone to share the process of their work. I know this may not happen every time because that’s life, we won’t always have the time or means to do so. This is however something everyone should shoot for because it adds quality to your posts and value to this community. If we are trying to inspire others to pick up a craft, how much more will they be inspired if they can actually see it come to life by seeing the steps you took to get there?...a bunch more ;)

Discord - It would be great for our group to have it’s own Discord. Especially for those that will be working on the account together to better communicate. However, I do not have the extra time to create one but I can help if someone is willing to do so.

If we are unable to have our own there is another option for us. @steemitmamas (which I am apart of) has generously agreed to allow our needlework community to have our own space with channels within their Discord server. Setting up a Discord group does take time and you kind of have to be computer savvy. Being one of the moderators for @steemitmamas has made me realize this. We have some talented mamas here on Steemit that know their stuff and I have learned quite a bit from them.

This next one is for everyone...

If you have any Project or Challenge ideas please let me know. We will be starting these again soon but I want to hear your ideas and inspirations! We need projects and challenges that everyone would be able to participate in that are not limited to certain needle crafts. This is a challenge in itself so I would love some feedback on this please.

These are the tasks I can think of at the top of my head. Once we get on Discord we will better be able to communicate and I can give details to whomever is wanting to volunteer. Please don’t feel obligated to volunteer just because you are apart of this community, I don’t want anyone to feel pressured. It is your choice and I ask that you do so only if you are willing and able to :)

Needleworkers this is what I need from you below in the comments please:

1 . Let me know if you want to volunteer and if so which task.
2 . List below any ideas you may have for a project/challenge.
3 . Tell us below if you would be okay with sharing a Discord space with the @steemitmamas
(in the case no one is able to set us up our own)
4 . Please share any other thoughts or remarks you have :)

Having a few of us that curate and resteem will help keep voting impartial and will help get a variety of posts shining in the spotlight! Volunteers must stay on the same page about keeping the guidelines as this helps keep our quality. These things will be further discussed later.

Thank you for your attention to this! I look forward to hearing your feedback! ❤️

If you are an investor or looking for projects to delegate SP to, please consider @NeedleWorkMonday! We are passionate about keeping the needle arts alive and inspiring others to dive into this world of handmade creations. All earnings from @NeedleWorkMonday will go back to needlework content creators.

First: @Crosheille, thank you for the work you've done, for the energy and work you invested, from the idea till where we are now!

I'd love to help but like a lot of others English is not my first language. What I could do with the time I have for Steem:

  • I could look for other needlework posts, comment there and leave a message with information about NeedleworkMonday. That's something that several of us might be able to do in their native language communities.
  • I could look for people not using our tag "relevantly and appropriately". Sooner or later people will notice this community and they will start to abuse the tag. If they don't stop after a first notice there is always @steemcleaners - they are going after "tag spam", too.

A Discord of our own would be nice but I think a channel or two on another Discord would be enough. After establishing a Discord (or some channels) there is not that much work needed - giving new users a rank (role) which probably would be a manageable number ;) I could help with that too, I'm available on Discord several hours a day because I use it for work and in private life.

btw: I try to vote on all #needleworkmonday posts but since voting power is limited and I want all of you to receive my gigantic $ 0.004 it might take two or three days for everyone to be voted :)

Thank you so much @muscara! The ideas you have laid out here are great! I definitely understand about the language barrier.

Yes if you could leave a message on others needlework post about #needleworkmonday that would be great! If you are comfortable with addressing someone that uses the tag incorrectly that would help but if you’re uncomfortable you could let me know and I can address it. Even having others look out for that helps ;)

It’s great that you’re already on Discord because I will need help with moderating it. One of the mods from @steemitmamas is already working on setting up our own little world. Once the details are worked out we’ll get it rolling and will be able to communicate better from there.

Thank you so much for your support of the needlework community and taking time to upvote all of the posts, that’s wonderful and you are appreciated!! 😊

It started taking me two days to be able to vote for everyone too. This is one of the reasons why I wanted to create a communal account ;)

Thank you so much for putting this together @crosheille and thank you for all the time you spent on this. It is really sweet and kind of you 😘.

I would like to volunteer ✋🙃 (not sure for which task yet) and I agree with @shanibeer that this will need more conversation to see what each of us who volunteers can help out with and how to go about doing this together.

I agree with using the SteemitMamas discord channel first for our initial discussions while we figure things out. Once we are more settled, we can look into creating a dedicated channel for NeedleworkMonday :) or maybe not if SteemitMamas works for everyone.

And like most of us in this community, I too will try to comment, upvote everyone's post in this tag. So, I think once we "see" things more clearly on who would like to contribute what, we can come up with a schedule or roster to take turns to do the curation, resteems, upvotes, maintenance and discord. We will probably have a curation, resteem team, a maintenance team and a discord team and etc.

But that would also mean, we may need some form of standard to ensure we are consistent in our replies, curation, upvotes, resteems (or maybe not :D - just based on our personal taste). The curation, resteem team must then agree who will be featured in the weekly curation post.

For the maintenance team, I think everyone who are regulars in this community can help to monitor this and report any abnormalities or abuse of the tag to the maintenance team who can then take action to give warning to the person.

The discord team can discuss how best to move forward with the discord channel - figure out how to create a channel, how to monitor, guidelines for the channel, etc.

As for projects/challenge ideas, we can have a bi-weekly or once a month challenge so that for the other weeks, our craftpals can showcase their personal projects while working on the projects / challenges. At the same time, projects / challenges will need to be applicable for all types of needlework so that it is not limited to just crochet or knitting or sewing that only some of us can participate in. I think @phoenixwren has started the ball rolling 😁 with this week's upcycling contest-a fabulous idea! We can have small projects based on a featured post, e.g. @cryptocariad wrote a tutorial for a spectacle case, the project/challenge can be to create your version of a spectacle case (it can be crocheting, kniting, sewing, felting, any form of needlework) :).

That is my two cents for now :) Sorry for rambling away :D

Wow what great feedback you have given!! Thank you for your detailed ideas! No apologies necessary, I really appreciate you sharing your thoughts.

I agree as well. Hopefully soon we will be better able to communicate these ideas once we have a spot set for us on Discord...it is in the works as we speak (or type haaaa)! Thank you for your willingness to volunteer! 😃

Thank you for your support in this community. From the looks of it we might not have enough people right now to form teams but I am just excited to have even a few volunteer their time. So for those that are able to help we’ll just have to share the tasks according to what each of us is willing and has time to do. I do love your team idea and as we grow I’m sure there will be more volunteers where we can form them!

I agree that if anyone sees any irregularities they can report them and we can handle them from there. We can set a standard of how this should be handled as well.

One of the reasons I wanted to reach out about the projects/challenges was because it is a challenge in itself to include everyone in them. I really don’t want to do projects that only pertain to certain skills so I am loving the feedback on this. I absolutely LOVE your idea of having projects based on featured post!! What a genius idea!!! That would be a great way of encouraging others to give these projects a try!! 😍

I love our community!!! 😄❤️

I will be very happy to help out, @crosheille. As you probably know I already try to do upvoting, invite and 'guide' needle-workers to this wonderful grouping.

I'm learning how to use Discord at the moment, but I'm happy to give it a go to help out.

Projects are certainly a good way to getting involved and I am keen to pass on skills, inspire people and save resources.

I will also have another think about your points and will come back to you :D

Thank you very much @cryptocariad! Yes I am very aware of the people you have introduced to our community and how you are always giving us a shoutout to others. Thank you so much for doing this, it is sooo appreciated!! 😉

It’s great to know you are willing to help with the Discord. It is in the process of getting set up so we’ll definitely be communicating more about this soon ;). Thank you!

It's a pleasure, @crosheille 😊

I just had time to skim through this and not fully digest it. A couple thoughts:

I personally have difficulty keeping up with all the different aspects of having a group, such as being part of Discord discussions, visiting all posts, curating, etc. I have no idea how anyone maintains an account like this while posting to their own account and keeping their laundry done, which makes you a little like Superwoman if you're even taking a stab at it.

What part of the tasks you're describing are at this point the most difficult for you to take on?

Haaaa!! I laughed out loud on this one, especially when you said keeping their laundry! 😄

Let me say it helps that Steemit is the only social media plattform that I am on. I consider it my extracurricular activity/hobby. 😁 I could do it all by myself but I would be crazy stressed out. Sometimes I don’t see how I fit it all in either but I have always been the type if I’m determined and have my mind set on something I work hard to get it done. That’s why I’m so thankful that @crystalize jumped on to help me. However creating the account entered a whole new level of work and organization. I really wanted a home for our initiative but it does take work.

So it’s not that the tasks are difficult for me it’s the time it takes to get it all done. Running an account and curation can get very time consuming and with a family of 7 I can’t afford to be on Steemit everyday of the week all the time.

So even if no one else is able to volunteer I will still do what I can and as much as I can. The growth of the account will be slow but at least it will still grow :)

Thanks for taking the time to read~

I love publishing, it has many challenges in itself.

I am happy to belong to the community, I love it because they value and appreciate my work. The members are kind and critical, they encourage you to keep going. Look at my native language is Spanish, and lately my post has been in English and for this community, I am very motivated to write for this community.

My English is not very good, I read it well, but it takes me a while to write, so my post is of few words.

I wonder how I can support you, and on the side of being discord, I couldn't because of the language.

One of my projects is that many more learn crochet, in fact I started the lessons in Spanish, I plan to continue doing them.

I'm going to sort out my ideas and analyze my limitation with English and see how to support it apart from my publications.

Thank you for your solidarity. I'm still active.

Thank you for taking the time to read and respond. I appreciate you taking the extra time to write your posts in English! I believe it really helps everyone to be able to communicate with you better.

I do understand that English is not your native language so it would be more challenging for you.

My suggestion has help would be as @muscara has stated above, to invite others from your native language communities to join us. You could encourage them to write their posts both in Spanish and English :)

More details to come later about Discord~

Just super short because it is late and I am not able to write constructive things :-D I absolutely want to help (I am still not sure how you get so many things done ... unbelievable <3)My limitations are, that I am not totally healthy, there may be days (or in bad cases a week) when I cannot fulfil any task and I am not a native speaker, so my English is bad (and I need time to write okayish)
I will think/write tomorrow or on Wednesday how I can support you (right now I try my best to upvote most needleworkmoday post and comment and/or resteem, I could do this more thoroughly for example...)

Thank you so much for your feedback! I definitely understand your limitations and I think the best help is the help that you are realistically able to do. Inviting others to join our community and continuing to support as you already do is great help! 😉 Everyone doesn’t need to have a particular role but whoever is able to help with the growth of our community in anyway they can it is definitely welcome! ❤️

Sharing space with SteemitMamas is a good idea if no one can create a discord. I've never set one up but I've been an early member in a few of them. I don't mind letting others know who post needlework type projects about the group! :) I look up the tag each week and go from there to find good posts. Coming up with projects sounds good. I thought of something recently but I can't remember. I'll have to try to get my brain working again or think of something else. Super fun!

Thanks so much for your feedback! Yes I think that’s the best way to go right now since we mainly need a place to better communicate.

That would be great if you spread the word when coming across another needleworker! 😃😉

Yes please let me know if you come up with any project ideas!

I would love to help. I think the discord chat for those helping at minimum is essential, but I see no reason we couldn't piggyback onto Steemitmamas.

As for helping the curation suits me best but I am adaptable. Let me know if I can be of assistance.

Thanks for investing in us Needleworkers!

Awesome! Thank you very much for your feedback and willingness to help! I’ll make note of this and once our Discord spot is set up we can further communicate and iron out the details ;)

Absolutely! ❤️

First of all, I really like your ideas about how to develop the community, starting with maintaining the lovely supportive culture and encouraging quality and then moving through the practicalities and implementation in line with your vision 😊

I would be delighted to help but I feel I need a bit more of a conversation to find the best fit between the things that need doing and what I could do. I think how you see the account working, though, is lovely, especially the outreach through the week. I see other commenters have also mentioned that they are from different language communities which also offers lots of potential.

Steemitmamas Discord channel sounds like a good starting place. I feel there is a lot to do organising support for the community, so even if we had the skills among us to set up a Discord channel, perhaps that could be something that happens later when we have some other things in place?

My only other question would be to Steemitmamas: not everyone who posts in #needleworkmonday is a mama (or ever will be), how does that fit with steemitmamas' aspirations and vision, does it work for them? Personally, I don't want to exclude anyone who wants to post under the #needleworkmonday tag and meets the posting criteria.

Ideas for projects and challenges - we've seen some lovely recycling and upcycling ideas recently, how about something along those lines?

Thank you so much for your thorough response and feedback! I’m glad to know you liked the ideas I put forward.

Yes once we have a space established for us in Discord we will be better able to communicate further details about the tasks. I think it’s great that those who wish will spread the word and invite others from their native communities to join us! 😊

Thank you for sharing your thoughts which are really valid points about sharing a Discord with the steemitmamas. I have spoke with the moderators and they are all onboard with it. Needleworkers won’t have to be moms to be apart of the Discord group because we will be able to have our own little world set up. We will have a section labeled Needlewokers and only that particular section will be open for us. Meaning the needleworkers won’t have access to any of the steemitmamas and vise versa. Some of us needleworkers are apart of the steemitmamas so that of course is an exception.

Yes I think that’s a great idea. I know that @pheonixwren just started a contest along those sorts. We could continue that idea and make it a challenge...”clearing up space to make something new”. I’m sure we all have some things laying around taking up needed space that we can put to good use ;)

Exciting! I laughed when I read "clearing up space to make something new" - I think that must be another natural attribute of the community, along with always being busy 😊

Thank you for easing the way with steemitmamas, it sounds like a good starting place. I like the way that the permissions work, and I love the sound of our own little world 😎

Look forward to the next steps. I have been imagining hearing everyone's voices, it will be fun.

Haaaa! Yes I believe it is!

It’s my pleasure. I’m excited about having a place to better communicate community matters. I think this will be good for us. I like the way the permissions work too.

Oh yes it’ll be fun! We’ll all get to know each other better as well ;)

It would be wonderful to have more involvement- I LOVE these posts and this tag.

Thank you @goldendawne! We have some things in the works and I am so excited to see the growth of the needlework community! 😃
