Now, I am a knitter but ...
... I tried out my hand at crochet. Since I was new to knitting and crocheting, I wanted to figure out which I enjoyed more. So, I crocheted a huge shawl following a free pattern. It is safe to say that I am definitely a knitter.
A few things I learnt from and am appreciative of this project:
- The recommended yarn weight/yarn fiber is probably the right one,
- Crochet is a sophisticated manipulation of yarn, and
- There are some (very) talented designers providing their patterns for free

I am just the opposite. I’ve been crocheting for a long time and am in the process (when I find the time which is hardly ever) of learning how to knit. I don’t think I will ever be as comfortable with knitting as I am with crocheting. I’m not sure if that’s because the craft you start off with first just makes more sense or just because you have had time to get that comfortable with it.
The Shaw you made is really nice. I like the contrast of the black with the green and blue.

Just ignore everything that is too much - write about the things you're interested in and read what you like. Everything else comes with time :)
Lovely pattern, with the knobs and the eyelets. And I like the blue-green yarn :)
Knowing how to crochet helps with knitting, too: Dropped stitches can be rescued quite easily with a crochet hook and binding off works better that way, too.

Good point about the dropped stitches! I have used my hook a handful of times while knitting.
