Esports or otherwise known as electronic sports is an organized competition done via video games among which genres are strategy, multiplayer, battle arena. They are usually played between professional players with larger viewers making bets and stakes. In the last few years, the growth of the esports industry has grown rapidly and in 2017 recorded a revenue of $693M.
The first tournament goes as far back as the 1980s, competitive games has been in existence just as video games, it all started from a group of friends challenging themselves and from then little tournaments began to spring up. Atari, an arcade gaming company held the first video games competition called space invaders in 1980 that was seen by over ten thousand people but it grew and more people picked interest so much that in the 1990s PC gaming was introduced and the tournament migrated from just shooting, sports and arcade gaming to StarCraft and blood wars etc.
Today we have the World Cyber games and Esports World Cup which has been launched as international tournaments.
