Self-tying
[Ihya '' Ulumuddin lil Al-Hujjatul Islam Imam Al-Ghazali]
* Self-tying *
Know that reason is like a seller who trades on the way to the Hereafter, where his partner is soul.
Intellect can not achieve the intended desire-the profit of the hereafter, as the merchant does not earn a profit-if his spouse, the soul, does not carry out his mandate when it is left behind.
Therefore, the first reason must be binding or bidding on the soul, then watching, correcting, punishing him if wrong, struggling to get out of the shackles of error and the latter rebuking him when guilty.
After that, then the mind imposes a work on the soul, qualifies it, then points the way to happiness and commands it to do according to what is commanded.
