I read a book like that one time where they hinted that there was going to be something really sinister or supernatural and then the whole book just ended up being nothing about that. It was called Abandon. It wasn't a horrible book, but I am not usually one to pick up supernatural books, so it was even more of a let down since I had finally gotten the courage to try to read one :) I am surprised this movie went the way you say it did with Ridley Scott involved.
