The World Internet Will Experience Disorders in the Next 48 Hours

In the next 48 hours, the world internet is rumored to be experiencing disruption due to network infrastructure maintenance.

Responding to this news, the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo) called on the Indonesian people not to worry too much.

Non-profit organizations, the Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Nubers (ICANN), previously revealed that this disorder would arise due to maintenance in the server domain and network infrastructure.

Maintenance is done is changing the key signing key (KSK) on the root server.

Only about 1 percent of internet users worldwide will be affected by this. Especially those who are connected to an ISP that has not updated the system.

From an official statement received by KompasTekno, Saturday (10/13/2018), Kominfo said that the party potentially affected by this disorder is the DNS resolver belonging to an Internet Service Provider (ISP) that has not updated the system.

The Chairperson of the Indonesian Domain Name Managers (PANDI), Andi Budimansyah explained that ISPs that use the latest DNS resolver will not be affected by this CWC change.

"This has actually been anticipated since 2 years ago," he said.

Although it has been ascertained to be safe, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics continues to urge internet service providers (ISPs) to use the latest DNS resolver software so as not to be affected by this improvement.

Previously, the Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) reportedly would improve cryptographic systems on Internet infrastructure.

According to ICANN, this cryptographic system will be strengthened to help protect the Domain Name System (DNS) from hackers, as well as prevent and fight the tapping attacks that have occurred recently.

The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA), which oversees the rules of Internet communication, states that global internet outages need to ensure that there are no problems when DNS security and stability are corrected. (Yudha Pratomo)
