A Whole New World
So I just started my steemit and dtube accounts. The goal for what my channel will be is not fully formed yet, but I know I want to make it about movies/television, web series and the motion picture medium in general. Having studied the artform at Capilano University in North Vancouver, British Columbia for four years, and having over thirteen years of video editing experience, as well as working as a key creative on several projects such as Complacent Charlie (a web series which can be found on the Grayfox Productions channel on YouTube), I feel I am ready to start exploring an independent career in motion picture production. Just how much steemit and dtube will play into that remains to be seen.
I think everybody on steemit/dtube seems to be committed to an experiment. It certainly seems there is a lot of potential here. The notion of a decentralized system for social media, free from the controlling corporate entity that has begun to plague sites like Facebook and YouTube as of late, is one that certainly appeals to many, including myself. I have always believed that decentralized systems are the way of the future. What form these systems take was never clear, but it always seemed logical to me that society would progress towards a more free form of economic and social interaction. The corporate owned media has been showing its manipulative and often politically-biased tendencies a little too blatantly in recent years, and I have noticed that people have noticed. We see this beginning to occur more and more with not just news and politics, but entertainment as well. We are seeing multiple notable examples of disparities between the professional critics and the general consensus among the public. It seems that everywhere we look, people are showing a stronger and stronger desire to take the authority away from the few elite figures... and put more trust in the power of the people.
This is all happening in large and small ways. I, as an artist, am seeking a way to find my voice in all of this. Hopefully my channel will grow into something worthwhile, but if not... I will try to enjoy the experiment and learn from it all the same. Here's to new ventures!
Thanks,
Andrew
