Excellent article - the best part: Have fun! I was exactly like you - just looking to build up as much SBD as possible and grow a following - but after meeting friends here my perspective changed too... now I'm involved in helping to support newbies with upvotes, resteems and contests that encourage interaction.

@jorlauski very value showcase that remind newbie like me what should be focused on. Engagement seems to be the key to long term success in steemit. This I the soft part of running steemit and it takes time to acquire. Technical aspect of steemit is important but can picked up the skill as you move along the journey.
I am in total support of your initiate to help others especially the newbies it is crucial to keep them afloat and guide them if possible to the right track
