BE HAPPY. BE GRATEFUL.

We spend so much of our lives with our heads bent down thinking, about what we have to do next, about how to achieve our next goal, about our worries. It's no wonder that so many of us are unhappy.

Being happy is a mission. It requires us to make the effort to recognise and reflect on the smallest of things we experience or the unlikeliest of people we meet that bring a little joy into our lives.

So let's take some time to reflect on the past week, and be inspired!

The Prizes

  • All participants will get an upvote from me worth between $0.01 to $0.04, depending on how much I like your comment!
  • 1 lucky winner will walk away with 2 SBD. Hooray!
  • At least 50% of my post SBD rewards will be used to sponsor more prizes for other deserving comments.

Eligibility

  • Newbies: To be eligible for the SBD prize, you have to be a newbie, which I define as a reputation of not more than 45.

You are certainly welcome to participate by posting about what you are grateful for anyway! But the SBD prizes are reserved for newbies who I think need it more. Let's be generous, right?
  • No cheating, such as buying or exchanging upvotes! This will be based on an honour system.
  • Please be respectful to all participants!

How to Participate?

  1. Leave a comment that reflects on what you are grateful for. More thoughtful comments are more likely to win! Pictures are welcome.
  2. Vote for your favourite comment by another participant, and leave a reply with why you like it.
  3. Upvote this post. Resteem it to spread the word!
  4. (Optional) Follow me for more giveaways in the future!

How do I Win?

  • The giveaway ends when this post expires.
  • The participant with the highest number of upvotes will win 2 SBD. In the event of a tie among 2 or more participants, I will try my best to honour the 2 SBD prizes even if that means emptying the bank account!
  • At least 50% of my post SBD rewards will be used to sponsor more prizes for other deserving comments.
  • The comments of all winners will be highlighted in a "Gratefulness" post.

I leave you with this passage by Dr. Oliver Sacks, the British neurologist and author, who upon learning that he had terminal cancer, wrote:

I cannot pretend I am without fear. But my predominant feeling is one of gratitude. I have loved and been loved; I have been given much and I have given something in return; I have read and traveled and thought and written. I have had an intercourse with the world, the special intercourse of writers and readers.

Above all, I have been a sentient being, a thinking animal, on this beautiful planet, and that in itself has been an enormous privilege and adventure.

Thank you to the awesome Brain Pickings for bringing this to my attention!

What are you waiting for? Fire away!

I am grateful to have my pups by my side every day. They are adorable little things and always make me happy. No matter how bad my day may be, they will always greet me with love and affection every day.

I feel the same about my dog. We rescued him and I can't imagine how I ever got along without him. He's getting pretty grey now, but I know he still has a few good years left. I'm crying right now thinking about not having him forever. Thank you for your comment.

I am thankful for my grandmother. I was born in Kuwait but ended up growing here in the Philippines with my grandmother since I had an allergy due to an oil leakage near our house. My mother died 6 years ago and I lost contact with my father when I was in high school. My parents are separated. My grandmother always looks after me even until now. She will be turning 89 this October. Just thinking about living without her makes me wanna cry. I love her so much!

She’s a blessing to you! And you are also a blessing to your grandmother. 💛

Here's a hug for you! I am forever grateful and indebted to my own grandmother who took a lot of care of me when I was young as well =)

Having had some bad news this week that made me very depressed I am glad for my family that rallied round. My daughter came over to stay the weekend and my hubby has cooked tea. My dad bought me some lovely flowers. I'm just glad that I am still here today to thank them.

Having depression is never an easy thing. Also thankful for those who are there and supporting us in this time of crisis.

@saltycat it is truly a blessing to have a supportive family, and to be able to express your gratitude is wonderful. I hope you are feeling better.

I am sorry to hear about the bad news. I'm glad that your family has been so supportive! It's the trying times like these that make us understand how precious we are for having loved ones around us.

One thing I'm always grateful for is my ability to live to see every new day.
Remembering my past, my childhood days, I feel grateful and happy to be alive. Growing up in an environment where they society cares not whether you are this or that such that any communal clash you're gone.
I'll always be happy for being alive.. Because it comes with hope.

Awesome! Thank you for sharing about how you persevered in a difficult environment!

I'm grateful for the breath I just took..
I have stage 5 emphysema. I'm not able to do much physically but this has put me on a quest to grow from the inside out. Because of that I have made my life bearable again and am able to share that with others.. I'm trapped inside my own body but I have never flown so high.

I just dropped a newbie nickel on you... you have some very inspiring words... I really don't know how to respond other than to say - keep up the struggle... saw a weird shirt today some little girl was wearing .. it said :

"Life is war - never stop fighting"

I am grateful for lots of little things. Like now, the kids are in need and it is quiet. I have time for myself. When they wake tomorrow morning (I hope not earlier), I will be grateful for their presence!

I feel exactly what you mean. My little ones have redefined fatigue, sleeping habits, freedom and personal space, peace and quite, but yet I have never felt so blessed in my life. I now cherish the little moments of peace and sleep, knowing that I will wake to my precious gifts that keep on giving.

Family comes next on the list of things I'm grateful for. The thought of having children of my own, gives me hope for the future.

Firstly thanks for the opportunity , am grateful because i made it this far , i am now a university graduate ,i never knew i can make it this far, am from a poor background which many think my parent wont be able to see me through school because financially we are not buoyant but the surprising aspect was that anytime i think its over ,new doors of opportunity keep opening, i don't know i can make it this far ,am so grateful for this. Its a dream come true .

Thank you for sharing about @sola3097 how you have overcome so many obstacles in your early life to get to a better place!

Thanks for such a positive contest. In all the drudgery of every day life I am most grateful to have the most beautiful, awesome little granddaughter who is 10 months old now. She brightens up my day with her almost permanent smile, her little "conversations" made up of baby sounds accompanied by facial expressions and hand movements. She smothers me with kisses and is an absolute delight. No matter what mood I'm in or how tired I am, she uplifts me the moment I see her.

Thank you @leighleigh for sharing about the light of your life! Your granddaughter is really cute, and I can imagine how she must be a ball of absolute joy right now =)

Thanks @wilfredn for your kind words, she is indeed the light of my life!

What an awesome little girl, looks like she is a very happy child, must be all the love and attention you give her. She looks like she is an explorer. Great Picture.

Besides the obvious treasures in my life that I cherish: family, friends, food, career, and music, I am grateful for all the opportunities that have ever come my way. By working hard and treating others with care and respect, and I have been lucky to receive opportunities throughout my life. I have seized each one by diving in as if it is my last. I hope I continue to receive them as I grow in this new world.

Opportunity and courage to take them. This is something worth being grateful for!

Thank you @beeyou! Thank you for reminding me to cherish all the opportunities that come my way and to do my very best.

What's up? First is like to say this is a awesome post/idea. So the thing that makes me the happiest is just watching my kids play. They are just innocent still and find joy in the littlest things and it is just awesome to see.

Thank you @blazinbon419 for your comment and for participating! Thank you for reminding me to be appreciative of the important people in my life!

Thank you for the chance to enter for real. And for me family is what keeps me centered and focused which I could not be more appreciative for. Plus children will always make you smile when you need it.
