BREAKING NEWS ON STEEMIT: R.I.P Snapchat 2011 - 2016

in #news8 years ago

BREAKING NEWS!!! You're hearing it here FIRST ON STEEMIT! Instagram took a major aim at Snapchat today, releasing "Instagram Stories" which uses the same message structure as Snapchat.
Here are images of Instagram's new Stories feature which is very similar to Snapchat (photo referenced from New York Times).

On this new section of Instagram, photos or videos will appear for 24 hours before vanishing. Mark Zuckerberg has been trying to takeover Snapchat for the past few years (he put in a bid in 2013 for $3 billion but it failed). Now it appears that Instagram, a Facebook subsidiary, has stepped up to the challenge to takeover Snapchat. This is just another example of how dominant Facebook truly is. Reportedly, in recent months, people have been posting less on Facebook and Instagram; but now with the new Instagram Stories component, this is expected to change. I never quite jumped on the Snapchat train, but much of the world did. So, to those of you Snapchat fans, you can now create Instagram Stories of all your hilarious moments that you don't want to broadcast for more than 24 hours!

I don't know if this update kills Snapchat...
still doesn't have the puppy filters 8]

Ahhh the infamous puppy filter! Do you think Facebook will purchase Snapchat eventually?

I think FB is playing both wear with Periscope (FB Live) and Snapchat (IG Stories)
time will tell, here is a list 8]

Good point gekko! I forgot all about Periscope

Noooo, say it isn't so!
I actually love snapchat. I was late to adopt it but I love the filters. what I love even more is the capability to speak to anyone on snapchat in Skype-like fashion. I hope you're wrong. As much as I appreciate Facebook, it's really only a birthday reminder for me.

I lot of people love Snapchat. I was late to adopt it and never fully got into it. They of course still "exist" but with a giant like Facebook (specifically the division of Instagram) taking their same structure and implementing it as their own, I wonder how long it will be before Snapchat is completely taken over. A lot of people got away from Facebook, especially because their privacy seems to be so compromised. I wonder how all of this will play out!

I never enjoyed Snapchat much. Not the format itself but how the app works. It was aways annoying to figure out the "secrects"gestures and so on... I like the fact of Instagram is doing deep changes to stay up-to-date.

I thought I was the only one who didn't fully understand how Snapchat worked (and I am a tech person! Lol) Glad to see I am not the only one!

I only used Snapchat a couple of times and never really got into it, I hear lots of great things about it. I know Instagram is bigger than Snapchat however I don't necessarily think it will be the end of the company. Snapchat i'm sure has loyal users and they will continue to use the service. Who knows maybe Snapchat will put it self up for sale with another large social media company.

Your experience with it is similar to mine. I have a feeling that Facebook will be the company to eventually buy Snapchat. That is my prediction.
