Internet usage policy
This Internet Usage Policy applies to all employees and students of GIFT University who have access to computers and the Internet. Use of the Internet by employees and students of GIFT University is permitted and encouraged where such use supports the goals and objectives of the study. However, access to the Internet through GIFT University is a privilege and all employees and students must adhere to the policies concerning Computer, Email and Internet usage. Violation of these policies could result in disciplinary and/or legal action. Employees and students may also be held personally liable for damages caused by any violations of this policy. All employees and students are required to abide by the rules hereunder.
Computer, email and internet usage
- Employees and students are expected to use the Internet responsibly and productively.
- Internet access is limited to study related activities only and personal use is not permitted
- Study related activities include research and educational tasks that may be found via the Internet
- All Internet data that is composed, transmitted and/or received by GIFT University’s Internet system, is considered to belong to GIFT University and is recognized as part of its official data. It is therefore subject to disclosure for legal reasons or to other appropriate third parties
- The equipment, services and technology used to access the Internet are the property of GIFT University and the University reserves the rights to monitor Internet traffic and monitor and access data that is composed, sent or received through its online connections
- Emails sent via the University email system should not contain content that is deemed to be offensive. This includes, though is not restricted to, the use of vulgar or harassing language and/or images
- All sites and downloads may be monitored and/or blocked by GIFT University if they are deemed to be harmful and/or not productive to business
- The installation of software such as instant messaging, p2p clients and torrents technology is strictly prohibited
Unacceptable use of the internet by employees and students includes, but is not limited to:
- Access to sites that contain obscene, hateful, pornographic, unlawful, violent or otherwise illegal material
- Sending or posting discriminatory, harassing, or threatening messages or images on the Internet or via University’s email service
- Using computers to perpetrate any form of fraud, and/or software, film or music piracy
- Stealing, using, or disclosing someone else's password without authorization
- Downloading, copying or pirating software and electronic files that are copyrighted or without authorization
- Sharing confidential material, trade secrets, or proprietary information outside of the organization
- Hacking into unauthorized websites
- Sending or posting information that is defamatory to the University, its services, colleagues and/or students
- Introducing malicious software onto the University’s network and/or jeopardizing the security of the organization's electronic communications systems
- Sending or posting chain letters, solicitations, or advertisements not related to business purposes or activities
- Passing off personal views as representing those of the organization
If an employee or student is unsure about what constituted acceptable Internet usage, then he/she should ask his/her supervisor for further guidance and clarification.
IT CLEARANCE PROCESS
IT Clearance means to ensure the following
• Delete email account
• Delete domain account
• Ensure Handover/Takeover of Inventory
• A person who is on study leave his/her domain account is deleted but email account is not unless any higher authority gives consent
• Only email accounts that are not by name but by designation like [email protected], [email protected] will not be deleted
- Hand over and takeover of data is the sole responsibility of the supervisor/HOD/replacement
All data is deleted along with the accounts and that is not recoverable. Kindly take your data and transfer important emails to your personal email accounts before getting clearance.
Important data should not be in the custody of just one person. It should be shared with supervisor or even before clearance supervisor should take important data from him/her and so as the emails.
Hand over and take over process should be immediately executed by supervisor/HOD as a person notifies about his/her departure.
At the time of clearance, all issued equipment should be returned to IT department. This enables us to achieve the following
• Cleared up all data
• Fresh Installation of Operating System
• Software/Hardware check
• System Clean up/Blower
IT Department will not be responsible of any data loss. All data should be carried before clearance
IT Department reserves the rights to make any changes in the policy with or without any intimation

• A research center has been established at GIFT with the help of LUMS. This facility provides online access to various journals and research related facilities via VPN

LAB USAGE POLICY
- Unattended computer login for more than 5 minutes is not allowed
- Account lending to fellow student is not allowed
- Online proxy bypassing is not allowed
- Personal electronic equipment such as laptops, printers, PDAs, IPODs, play stations etc is not allowed
- Usage of cell phone is strictly prohibited
- All kind of foods and drinks including bubble gums, pan masalas etc are not allowed
- Any kind of game, chat and irrelevant usage to academics is strictly prohibited
- Mass emailing to any group, other than related to students, is strictly prohibited
- Group discussion and noisy behavior is not allowed
- In case of unavailability of seats please clear the area immediately
IT Department
- IT Department reserves the rights to make any changes in the policy with or without any intimation
Storage Policy
- Every student will be given 300-512 MB of disk space on server as Z rive
- Every faculty and management employee who is given a domain user will be provided with 8001024 MB of disk space on server as Z drive
- Faculty members are provided with an additional space on server to share teaching material with students. Currently there is no space limit. A proper intimation will be sent before applying any limit.
- Faculty members should coordinate with library and PDF books should be placed in digital library. This will also make the digital library resource more useful.
- Snaps, movies or any other digital media about an event will be placed on any shared medium for two weeks only.
- All users should take backup of their data before the end of the semester as all data will be flushed out after proper intimation at the end of every semester
