Steemit WILL Go Mainstream, One Way or Another!

in #news7 years ago (edited)

Having experienced firsthand the power of the Steemit platform, I genuinely, wholeheartedly believe that STEEM is the Facebook killer. The opportunity is too good to pass up -- essentially, dedicated Steemit members can do what they normally do on Facebook, but get paid for it!

In sales terminology, Steemit sells itself. All that's stopping the open-source network from achieving Facebook-like dominance is data distribution. Once people understand the concept of Steemit -- and especially when they start making money off the platform -- they will be hooked for life!

Mainstream Warming to the Blockchain

This will happen organically, whether we like it or not. But I take the attitude that it doesn't hurt to help hurry things along. The network is proven; we just need the information coverage.

As an InvestorPlace contributor, I just noticed that many of our stories are being picked up quite frequently by mainstream outlets Yahoo Finance and MSN Money. Personally, this opens up doors to discuss cryptocurrency-related events when appropriate for the underlying story.

Lately, it's becoming ever-more relevant to discuss the cryptocurrency markets. Volume in the stock market is well off from prior highs. Those trillions of dollars are going somewhere, and a small portion of it is going to cryptocurrency assets.

But when the retail investment masses truly get a hold of the digital opportunities -- in particular, free opportunities like Steemit -- the paradigm will be ruptured. Traditional stock markets will have to adopt the blockchain, or risk being sidelined into obsolescence.

The Rise of the Cryptocurrency is Inevitable

I've submitted a story about the risk Steemit represents to Facebook's dominance, and it's an extremely fair point. Too many FB shareholders are assuming that nothing can upend its reach. I used to think the same, until I realized that Steemit is only a completely different dimension than Facebook.

Currently, a majority of retail investors -- basically, the people who read our stuff -- are not at all interested in cryptocurrency assets. I think that the future events of 2017 will change their minds. We're on the cusp of something extraordinary, and I'm not just referring to Steemit.

Humanity is about to realize for the very first time the joys of a free market, one unencumbered by puppeteers and insider trading and other nefarious and manipulative behaviors. For once, we will have a system that works for the people.

And this concept will go mainstream, one way or another!

Sort:

If I wasn't already using Steemit and seeing it function exactly as advertised, I would likely write it off as vaporware.

I hope the approval process for new accounts is going to be sorted out soon. This is the only thing holding it back, although I'm not sure what scaling challenges it will face.

out of curiosity, what do you think causes the instinctual reaction that its vaporware? very interesting opportunity to learn for marketing language

Almost everything in crypto is vaporware and devoid of users.

So when I tell them that there is a functioning social network, with a user base, and everything is stored in the blockchain, which transfers everything free and fast, and everyone's getting paid, and it's actually an amount 1st worlders would care about....

My experience is that it takes a good 10mins attacking their skepticism. But afterwards, they're on the waitlist, for sure!

I suppose at this stage you have to be over average curios on technology, making money and cryptos to get into steemit. The whole " make money for free just writing" is something most people cant comprehend. And most people dont have a well functioning "bullshit" radar. For most people that are groomed by mainstream media EVERYTHING is now a "scam" or "fake news". They have been "told" not to trust anything, and the will just laugh off everything as nigeria scams etc. Most people think bitcoin is a scam. They have noe clue. And these people wont adopt even long after the msm has gotten interested. But as we can see with bitcoin and even ethereum..msm are now writing about it in not only negative words. But I suspect it will take years before we see a mainstream adoption of Steemit. Which is good. It should take a long time. The growth has been amazing anyway. And the early adopters will be getting what they deserve.

Compared to most cryptocurrencies, Steemit is a living breathing ecosystem. The rest are lifeless coins, but Steemit has the most fantastic userbase. You're right, you can't beat free, near-instant and easy transactions of cryptocurrency.

thanks @gigafart

Yeah, I agree -- if it was just based on potential only and no real returns, than I would have also written it off!

Great article man. I agree. I wholeheartedly believe that steem is the gateway of crypto for the average Joe's of the world. Let's make sure this thing grows fast.

Yeah, that's a great way to put it, that STEEM is the crypto gateway! I just got one of my good friends involved with Steemit and he's very excited about its potential! :)

The possibilities are endless. Everyone comes for the money and stays for the community. The monetization promotes positivity and puts content on a curve. Things will improve greatly as it grows.

Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and even Reddit are billion dollars companies, all because they share on thing in Common, they have millions if not billions of user signed up with them. What's stops those people from a free Steemit Sign up? Nothing, once we get more Users Steemit could easily be 500 Billion Social Media Power House, which will bootstrap Steem as a virtual currency

Exactly, particularly because they can make money with Steemit, as opposed to so many other mainstream networks, where the money is only made to a very select few.

I agree that like any technology.. it will get picked up by the mainstream when it is seamless to do so. I am not sure that streemit is the facebook killer yet. At the moment it is missing a lot of elements that facebook offers to be able to draw people away from FB.
However, I do think that the concept of rewarding people for interacting with each other and creating good content etc is most likely something that will attract people to get involved - even though they may not know they are actively using blockchain technologies.

Yes, Steemit is missing a lot of elements from Facebook. However, I would also argue that Facebook is missing critical elements that Steemit offers, namely, a broader point to be on the network. Facebook favors the corporations and the heavy-hitters in social media; with Steemit, even a minnow who's diligent in his/her craft can become a whale.

You got it right buddy. I think that its only a matter of time and we are seeing the start of it now. Not to be stupid, but what do you think steem will be worth when the major artists amd celebrities take it up. And they are controling big bank rolls of steem power and big payouts. I think in 5 years from now we will all be very happy we were early to the party.

I'm personally thinking $100 as a longer-term target, and I think it's achievable, irrespective of celebrity power (although that would accelerate things!). Once STEEM cracked the dollar-level, it achieved a paradigm-shifting psychological victory. Technically, it's no longer a "penny stock," and the bulls will look towards ever-higher targets. Eventually, the broader psychological benchmark is $100 :)

Great post, I did a post a week ago about how it feels like a small community now for me, and when it goes mainstream It will be a sad yet bittersweet day or me. Then again I'm a sentimental woman lol. Thanks for sharing @bullishmoney

That was a joke I'm glad you were paying attention lol🙂

Haha, I got a great kick out of it! :)

😂 glad you have a sense of humor. You know that was a gamble🃏 on my part. Lol 😂 Steem on and ttyl

Yeah, it was great! Talk to you soon! :)

It sure seems like it's going mainstream. Barring some rare and unusual circumstances, I don't see anything obstructing its success.

It's like what we're saying, "magic money!" Who turns that down!? :)

No. It is saying: bring your trust and energy to a vibrant community. The value will follow automatically.

Excellent post as ever my friend!!!

Being that I'm a minnow (who's far less skilled at writing) and only able to make a few cents per blog, I'm considering buying some Steem soon. Would you recommend this approach or is it better to continue doing what I'm doing?

Yeah, in the interest of time, I would buy some now...as I'm writing this, STEEM is $2.09 in the open market. However, I would buy in increments. I'm keeping my powder keg dry in case STEEM ever drops to below a buck (very unlikely). But if so, I'd buy a shitload, believe me! :)

As far as the blogging thing, I would just keep going! Although I believe I have a knack for writing, it's a skill that I honed for years, and I am still learning new things despite being published in the mainstream. So keep it up! We all are :)

Many thanks for the advice and encouragement!

It's great reading your posts, boosts my enthusiasm. Would be nice if there was a card or direct platform to trade steem into dollars directly. Is there any?

I'm not sure of any methods...I had to open up a Bittrex account to convert steem to bitcoin, then I'll have to transfer the bitcoin to another account to cash out; it's a pain in the butt, I totally agree!

i know, same here... would like something more direct, I mean if i wouldn't need to buy bitcoin.

I hear ya on the inevitability of mainstream adoption of the blockchain which will create a level playing field for Main Streeters... great insights as always!

Thanks so much! I'm eagerly anticipating my FB/Steemit article to be published...that would be awesome!
