Heavy rains persist here in central Bali. And the situation with the huge number of evacuees remains the same while the volcano itself has been calmer over the last few days. The image above was taken moments ago outside my home in Ubud, looking in the direction of the volcano.

Please note that all STEEM/SBD generated from this post goes towards the purchase of solar products & water filters for the evacuees... desperately in need of our help.

After two weeks of being told by the media that we are very likely no more than 24h away from the eruption of of Mount Agung, the people of Bali are beginning to grow restless, some of them even returning to their homes in the evacuated region.

This is a concern because in 1963 a similar thing happened... one month after the first indication of a pending eruption, the volcano did in fact erupt, killing over 1000 of the people who had returned.

But the truth of it is that the seismic activity does appear to have calmed down a little since last week. And the small amount of smoke coming from the crater is still nothing more than that... a small amount of smoke.

The wind direction

As you can see the wind direction does not currently present too much of a problem should an ash cloud be created by Agung. The majority of the island will not be affected. And whist the wind direction is fairly consistent at this time of year there is certainly no guarantee it will stay like this.

The heavy rain

I am no expert but given the bowl shape of a volcano crater and the amount of rain we are getting right now, I would assume that the water is collecting in there and having some kind of cooling effect on the volcano.

Perhaps a volcanologist amongst us might be able to comment on this?

The problem

There are now over 140,000 evacuees being housed in over 400 camps. Many of them without power or the basic essentials like food, clean water and sanitation.

The Solution

We at Steemit are playing our part by focusing our efforts upon the raising of funds to buy solar kits and water filters for as many of these evacuees as we can.

The solar products are coming from an Indonesian company My Sundaya and will be providing the evacuees with more than just power for this emergency situation... they will changing every aspect of their lives... forever.

The water filters, known as Nazava water filters are coming from Kopernik solutions

KNOWLEDGE is POWER

and we at STEEMIT are playing our part to

EDUCATE

Here you can see an image of live seismogram readings taken from the area surrounding the volcano. Website HERE

What these reading show is that Mount Agung has stabilised slightly over the past few days.

"Based on the record of the monitoring post, the number of tremors has dropped,” PVMBG spokesperson Gede Suantika said on Monday.

So what does this mean for the evacuees?

No one knows for sure how long it will be before they are legally permitted to return home, so the #helpbali2017 fundraising campaign will continue as long as they are stuck in their camps.

Multiple review articles

I have noticed people linking to the posts in this account with review type articles on multiple topics. This is much appreciated and a great to help in spreading awareness

but if you want to really make a difference...

you should write articles exclusively about this subject.

And as such, only articles that are 100% dedicated to helping the people of Bali will be resteemed into the @charitysteemit account and have the liquid portion of their rewards donated to this cause.
