A recent study by scientists have come out with some gloomy finds. In addition to the massive pollution we have in worldwide waterways and oceans, it is now known that most rivers around the world are polluted with antibiotic waste that exceed environmental safety thresholds, by up to a whopping 300 times.

In fact, the study found that at one location in Bangladesh, concentrations of another widely used antibiotic, metronidazole, were 300 times above the limit!

Also co-author John Wilkinson from the University of York, where the samples were examined, had the following to say:

Until now, the majority of environmental monitoring work for antibiotics has been done in Europe, North America and China. Our study helps fill this knowledge gap with data from countries that had never been monitored before.
